I had an interesting situation this weekend.

I was stuck on a hill. Nothing terrible, I could have backed down it and just hit it a bit faster.

I was in 4H and locked the rear. The left front was on decent surface, but I wasn't moving.

So just for yucks, I re-enabled all the electronics and turned off the rear locker and gradually applied power. It felt like the BLD locked the right front tire which let the left front get me going.

Its counterintuitive but it seemed like unlocking the rear end which allowed the BLD to function got me out.

Im not 100% sure this is actually what happened, so call Bull5h1t if I'm missing something. I didn't bother to try to repeat it. But I unlocked the rear end, turned on the electronic nanny and was able to drive away. I might have just finally dug down to pavement. I don't know.

But it seemed to me that with the rear diff locked, the BLD on the front is also disabled.

I've got the Tazer installed, so I can just lock the rear diff without having to press the traction control button off. And the light on the button remains off. Does that mean that TC and / or stability control remain on with a locked rear diff? I suspect not but I'm really not sure.

Any insight is appreciated because I'd like to understand how this works.

Just out of curiosity, you should try it again with off-road+ enabled, if it wasn't. Supposedly, off-road plus makes the BLD even more aggressive.

Interesting. Well its not repeatable. But I'll give it a try this weekend.

In Michigan, half the traffic would be going 45.
I'll add that it highly has to do with the tires, I put some Kenda Kevlars on. I have had Grapplers, and if I had them again I would be in that case doing 45 mph. lol.

LOVING my selec-trac Mojave in the snow so far. Time will tell whether it’s as good (don’t laugh) as my ’17 Trailhawk but even if it’s the same it’s still awesome. Both have A/T tires.

We drive vehicles that are smart enough (with traction control and modern AWD) to figure it out and get you moving.
I have both a 22 year old Cherokee and a Mojave. In spite of the electronic stuff the old Cherokee is every bit as good in snow as the Mojave. Maybe due it lighter weight. Both have Cooper AT3 tires.
Of course I do other stuff in the Mojave that would break the Cherokee.

Snow capability is 85% tires. Same tires. Same capabilities.

An example I've used several times on this forum is my wife's Miata (with a limited slip) on 4 Michelin Arctic Ice tires was actually fantastic in the snow an a TON of fun. It was like a 4 wheeled motocrosser.

Always worth reiterating for the new folks.

Sort of, but even in the areas where it doesn't snow "a lot" it still snows often enough to where everyone in Maryland is used to driving in snow, and there are still salt trucks across the state. Even the eastern shore gets 2-3 major snowstorms per year (just got one last week). I think you have MD confused with (southern) VA and NC. Maryland gets snow regularly. Even Baltimore, one of the least snowy areas, gets 19 inches per year. No, it's not the 48 that Boston gets, but it's enough to be used to the stuff.
There's not anyone in Maryland who isn't used to driving in snow. It's not rare or strange anywhere in the state to see major snowfall. We all grew up building snowmen and having snowball fights and sledding. There are even ski lodges.
Now my wife is from NC. It snowed there a couple weeks ago and everything was shutdown. Maryland, it's business as usual. Especially for the many who commute from the west to Baltimore/DC, and drive through it all the time.
Take a look at some of the cars the next time you're down that way. They use so much salt when it snows that everything's all rusted out after 5-6 years. Roadsalt killed my old Jeep.
Business as usual when it snows in MD?

My buddy lives in MD and as soon as flakes fly...school districts close. For multiple days in a row.

It handles snow just fine. Of course, here in Middle TN. we don't get huge snows.
