Damn it! Made a horrible mistake today...
Came from a little off road on 4H auto and then,...
Yup.. totally forgot about switching it back on to 2H and drove on the freeway for around 5 ish miles doing 85 mph..

The engine sounded slightly louder, then I finally realized what a moron I was....

Put it back in 2H and drove another 100 mi to come home.
Seems to be ok so far, but did i kill my car??!

The main thing that'll happen is you'll put a bind on the drivetrain, as there is no differential action between the front and rear driveshafts.
If it had been really bound up, you'd've had trouble shifting out of 4H.
Likely a non-issue.
Wait...
4H Auto? Do you have SelecTrac?
If so, it's REALLY not an issue!

No, but if you keep calling your Jeep a car you're likely to kill it.

Yeah, if it has selec-Trac it’s not really in 4H unless the computer determines it needs to kick it in. At least that’s my understanding.

Yes, it has the 4H auto ( i think in 2022 models, they call it select trac)

Saw another gladiator Rubicon while coming back and we both did the jeep wave~~

4hi auto is perfectly fine to use at highway speeds on pavement as long as you don’t shift in or out of it above 45mph. I have a 21 rubicon with that transfer case and use it when it’s slippery on and off. Great for snow. You’re fine. It’s louder when used as there is a bit more load on the drivetrain. Sleep well. You broke nothing. :)

In my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 I once drove probably 200+ plus miles in foot deep or deeper snow on Highway 395 coming south through the Sierras from Carson City, NV all in 4H and occasionally in 4 Low.

I had no choice. We were in Carson City doing the tourist thing, heading home we somehow inadvertently bypassed the highway closure.

Long story but we made it to the June Lake loop before the road was closed off by CHP and they ferried cars in groups after howitzers had been used to force avalanches on the steepest passes. The guy at the store there refused believe my totally stock truck had 20" rims - that was new then - and they didn't have passenger car chains big enough to fit it nor semi truck chains small enough. We made it and the truck was totally fine. Wore away a lot of black plastic on the small "damn" below the black boy paint but it was a looong nail biter. Sorry for the horrible photo-of-a-photo

Oh shit. You broke it. Basically worthless now. Better sell it to me for a pittance rather than get nothing. ;)
I’ll start the bidding at 20k.

Yes, please do not ever refer to your Jeep as a "car" ever again... lest your colon be infested by 40 pounds of blow fly larvae.

4H Auto is intended to be usable on the street 100% of the time.

And even if you drove home 50 miles in 4H with both front and rear diff locked, you wouldn't hurt anything.

I totally shift in and out from 2h to 4auto alllllllllllllll the time ?
If I lived in Fargo ND like you, I'd probably put it in 4Hi Auto in November and not take it out until March. ha.

Ya like been said, 4h auto ya did nothing. I throw mine in 4h auto in Nov and leave it till March.

Little note don't use 4h auto "off road" if you want 4wd shift it to 4H. Sand, gravel, trails etc you can over heat the clutch pack.

4H auto is cat's meow in wet and snow packed roads etc.

No. 4H auto can be used any time you want or need, wet or dry. No matter.

Basically - what Josh said.
