I was being sarcastic. Is there a smiley for that? Overloading the vehicle is not recommended, but if you do why not add more air? Air it up to the max on the tire. Have fun with that, it’ll be a smooth ride. (sarcasm again)
I think Kevin’s issue is the same as mine. The psi on the door is the recommended inflation psi for every day driving as the vehicle rolled off the assembly line. That is NOT the max pressure limit .

To add, the factory recommended psi will accommodate max load and towing in stock configuration.

it is also a compromise for the towing/load, nvh, handling, and delivering the best ride.

Higher psi might handle the load better and result in better steering, but ride quality will suffer.

Factory settings are going to be a compromise.

Just chalk test it. That higher pressure rating at 80 psi is just for when it’s handling max load. That’s because when there’s a bunch of weight on it, the tire will flatten/squish down more.

Just start at 36 psi or so then drive slowly over chalk, gravel road, dusty garage, etc. If the all of the tread and some of the sidewall is covered with chalk/dust then you’re too low. If the outside of the tread is still black or not covered, then your pressure is too high. You wanna be in the middle…tread completely covered in chalk/dust but none on the sidewall.

I agree to disagree, but do what works for you. Jeep would put that on the sticker (empty psi vs loaded psi). As long as the tire is at or below the max pressure on the tire you’re good to go. I will keep mine where Jeep recommends.
That is stock height on stock tires, it plainly says original tire size, once you add weight you got to adjust the PSI up to accommodate the weight, that's just common knowledge. Jeeps not going to put that on the door because it could vary between each Jeep. Also different tires, E rated vs C Rated need different PSI. I'm not saying 36 PSI is bad but different people got different opinions on what rides better to them, softer vs stiffer ride quality. Only way to truly know is chalk test them. You could be right about the 36 PSI or you could very well be wrong. Also if I'm not mistaken the stock tires are not E rated, they are C Rated tires.

The manufactures have charts that list the psi to carrying capacity. They are hard to find published, but they’re there.

Also keep in mind that optimal pressure changes if you throw a wider tire on the same stock size wheel. A wider tire will require higher pressure to stay flat on the surface.

You beat to it, I was about to mention the wheel width being a factor

So I’m an idiot and hoping someone can help. I have a gladiator sport s stock ride height. I had bought Firestone destination XT tires. The max PSI is 80 and there set at 36 now. Should E rated tires be higher then the door says, lower or am I fine? Thanks
I'm sure someone else has said it but unless you have a load in the back it's what is on the door .

I have always called the tire manufacturer. When I got my LR E K02's I called BFG & gave them my vehicle Info from the door & they told me to run them @ 34 PSI

Ok, I’m not giving up LOL. I was bored so I looked through the manual and here’s what it says about the recommended tire pressure on the sticker.

Sure on the size tires C Rated that are listed on the door, that would be true. The plate has the tire size at the recommended PSI. Throw a wider E Rated Tire on a wider rim and that's going to change. I didn't read the manual but here's a picture for reference

Personally I find the ride unbearable every time I get my oil changed they inflate my tires to mfg suggested PSI. As others have shared I did the chalk test and found that 30 psi front and 29.5psi rear was the answer for my setup. Every combo of vehicle, tire, wheel etc will have a g-spot so chalk away and you will be a happy camper.

Remember when all those tires were blowing up and killing people due to under inflation… run ‘em at the stated pressure on your door. Off road slow speed ya air down. Highway use .. stated pressure on the door. My 2c.
