I'm probably one of the few that was actually cross shopping the maverick to the gladiator. The plan was for a truck that would be a fairly well equipped DD for my wife while also being the family travel vehicle to take on light trails and camping trips. By the time we configured the maverick with what I wanted (leather, tech packages, 4k towing) I was in the ~35k territory.

Regarding the Maverick, I wouldn't say it is a girly car but it definitely looks "cute" compared to other trucks. Not that I have a problem driving cars that are considered cute (I DD a miata).

What it ended up coming down to was whether we wanted the "sensible" choice that could just meet our needs, or purchase something that was overbuilt for our needs and more of a "desire".

In the end, I'm responding to a thread on a Jeep forum, so that should tell you everything you need to know (will be picking up our Mojave in about a week ;)).

I'm glad the maverick exists though. It's definitely a great option. It drives well and is very competitively priced if the base options fulfill what you need.

Granted, I do have a 2.5” lift, but thought the size difference was interesting.

Both vehicles have a fantastic appearance! I prefer the color of your Jeep.

Hard disagree on the first point. I have two neighbors who traded in their Ranger and Colorado for one already and they're in love.

This is what the Ridgeline needs to be instead of trying to compete with the actual trucks in the market. The sacrifices made by going unibody and AWD aren't worth the few extra MPG but when you're talking literally double while still retaining a competitive bed and payload then you start turning heads.

The bed is very slightly smaller than the Gladiator, the payload competes with the Max Tow and Ranger that dwarf the Tacoma and GM twins, it gets 30mpg all day long, and it's as easy to drive as any CUV.

I would say about 15% of the market off roads or tows heavy enough to need an acutal pickup. For the rest I'm going to agree with @Litfuse... this might be the crossroads in the market where a real effort is put into making a unibody truck that is usable as a truck and it's going to be a huge hit with fleet.
Already have seen a few in various fleet liveries. I think it’s a worthy successor to the Ranchero as well as mini trucks.

I thought this was a JEEP GLADIATOR Forum? F the Ford. How about the (wait for it) Hyundai Santa Cruz?

It was very easy and cheap to make the Baja into a hot rod. And it wasn't any slouch even stock.
Ran into this guy along the highway between Nashville and Mammoth Cave a few years back who decided to go the opposite direction with his Baja. Fuel sipping hybrid pickup before it was cool.

As I've mentioned in other threads, my Mustang club meets at the local Ford dealership. At a recent meeting, the General Manager told us he had over 1,000 orders for a Maverick and they stopped taking orders. It seems right now if you want a Maverick, you're out of luck. You can't even order one.

I was at the dealer just this past Saturday and there was almost nothing on the lot. The only Ranger they had was a late-model used example. And it was on the show room floor. They had exactly one Bronco and it was a 2-door. There were a few Bronco Sports. I guess those have become the consolation prize.

A dealership contacted me in my city, they have one for 32k. I am curious about getting it for a work truck because gas is so expensive in california and i drive atleast 2 hours a day, everyday. I just seen people having issues with the battery on forums. ANYONE on here know if these trucks are having serious issues right out of the gate ?

Since we're talking little trucks, here's my '06 Baja Turbo 5-speed. Miss that thing, but the lack of aftermarket support forced me to go a different direction.

Hyundai Santa Cruz?
Those things are actually pretty dang cool aswell. I have my mother eyeing the santa cruz and the maverick as a replacement for when her old ridgeline takes a dump

A friend of mine is a car salesman and a diehard Ford fan, and has one. He hasn't had any issues with it yet, probably with about 5k miles. Says it's like driving a car and enjoys it. He's holding it til his Bronco gets built and figures he'll be able to sell it for close to what he got it for at that point
