@Tagalong, here’s pics of the wiring when I installed mine on my ‘21 Mojave. Make sure that you install the red portion of the connectors the right way. ? If you need pics under the hood I can get those for you later today if it stops raining. ??

They actually have you tap into wires?
Are those taps sealed taps - water-proof?

They are posi-tap connectors. they just barely pierce the wire. I do not believe that they are waterproof, but the wire piercing is so small and the screw caps are good an secure. I have never had any issues with them on the vehicles I have used them on. I have even used them when wiring up boat trailer lights and never had one fail. If you were worried about water you could always paint them with plasti-dip. Plus, they are pretty high up in the kick panel area almost under the dash. You have to be a contortionist to even get them wired up.

I installed the Amp XL steps on my Gladiator yesterday. The install instructions are "iffy" at best. There is no call out to install the horseshoe shim under the front mounting points, only a drawing, very easy to miss that step. Same for one of the bolts no call out to install it, just a drawing. The wiring description is horrible IMO until you understand that there are 3 OEM plugs or connectors as the instructions call them: Blue, White, and Black. Trigger wires for deployment/retraction: The 4 AMP trigger wires (white, yellow, gray, and purple) attach to the matching small violet striped OEM wires. The Amp white wire attaches to OEM voilet/white striped wire found on the OEM Blue connector plug, The Amp gray wire attaches to the OEM violet/gray striped wire found on the OEM White connector/plug. The Amp yellow wire attaches to the OEM violet/yellow striped wire found on the OEM Black connector/plug. The Amp purple wire attaches to the OEM solid violet wire found on the OEM white connector/plug, I grounded the Amp black ground wire to the ground bus bar (you will see it when the kick panel cover is removed), remove the spare 10mm nut and put it there. In order to get in this passenger floorboard area...I removed to passenger seat 4 bolts and lifted it to the rear area without unplugging the seat. Gives you more room. If someone wants actual pics of where the wires go...let me know and I will post those too.

Power wires: Super simple. There are only 3 wires on the AMP harness the you run into the passenger side floorboard area, these are Red, Purple w/black stripe and solid purple. These attach to the trigger module with the same colored wires, Red to Red, Purple w/ black strip to the same and Purple to Purple, Done. Last is the battery attachment, Red to positive post, black to Neg side. Done.

Your instructions helped me on my JLU. Upon completion, the boards retracted on power but now won't come back down.

Alex, will you post your wiring pics for me? I installed my steps this weekend and they worked to pull the steps up and then nothing. My "door ajar" indicators are all working and there is power to the controller. I have some testing steps to conduct that AMP Research Tech provided, but I want to make sure that I am tapped into the correct wires. I have a 2021 Mojave and it has the same colored connectors as your 2020. TIA
ShadowMoon, what ended being the chause of your power steps not working. I just installed a set on my Gladiator and have the same symptoms as you had.

Installed these yesterday, had to play around a bit with the wiring but finally got them working. Same issue on my 2021, had to follow the 2020 wiring diagram.

Found my problem, I had no power getting to the trigger module. The cause was a faulty fuse holder. The terminal molded into the fuse holder had a faulty wire crimp. I cut it apart to confirm. Replaced the fuse holder and the steps now work as they should.

sfjeldsted, I had the same issue with the fuse holder, but I also had a bad relay (the black box). The fuse holder was ridiculous. Glad that you got it fixed.

It's surprising that a company like AMP that is IATF 16949 quality certified has these type of quality issues. Not a good job of protecting the customer. Anyway, what did AMP do for you to cover the bad parts and time wasted on troubleshooting their faulty product?

They sent me a new replacement part overnight for the relay part. I was happy with that. I never addressed the fuse holder issue. I had extra fuse holders on hand so it was no big deal for me. It would have cost me more time, which is money to me, to complain about it and try to get something in return.
