OEM / OEE or Aftermarket..?

If you’re sitting in limbo right now with a broken windshield or if you're looking to purchase a new Jeep and still aren’t quite sure which option is best for you, we asked the glass replacement experts in our network about the options that Jeep owners have available to them.

I get you're trying to sell a product, but the figures you're using in the article to sell it are very misleading.

Safelite quote from days ago for replacing my windshield was $329 no ADAS, then you've got the ongoing debate between myself and ShadowsPapa about whether calibration for the Gladiator's ADAS is really necessary (and i'll be honest, the more i'm reading the more i'm coming around his way)

Thanks for your insight! Yes, the numbers we were quoted were from a customer based in California and included the ADAS calibration which can be pretty expensive depending on your location.

I'm very curious about the debate on whether the Gladiator ADAS calibration is necessary! We've heard stories from people who had it calibrated poorly and the systems were completely out of whack and actually tried to steer the car into oncoming traffic...

I was under the impression the Jeep system was a static ADAS, whereas ShadowsPapa has led me to believe this is a dynamic system.

Static systems need pretty ridiculous calibration procedures like a football field (exaggerating but only a little, little bit) of open space on flat ground with no objects. The kind of open space you're unlikely to find outside an abandoned warehouse (which i've heard rumors some body shops are buying to offer this service).

Dynamic systems are effectively self-learning, in that all you have to do is put it in calibrate mode and take it out for a spin. I'll admit safelite charge more than double the price i noted if you want them to calibrate your Jeep for you, but if they are charging $400 for pressing a button, that's ridiculous

Oh yeah - the static vs dynamic thing is definitely true. The setup for the static recalibration is pretty silly. And it's annoying that every car manufacturer has a slightly different system and process needed for the recalibration...

I think that you can do this dynamic recalibration on your own for Teslas too but it's not really clear on the website about whether or not they actually recommend it after you've had the windshield replaced.
