I can't believe how much prices went up for 2022. My exact 2021 Willys build is over $5k more for 2022.
This is true :( I did a little math to make me feel better:

I know the destination charge went up a good amount (~$400 maybe?)

They also include the 7in Uconnect screen, so that's probably ~$750+ that's added to the cost.

Paint cost went up ~$200 as well.

Add in inflation and here we are. Interestingly though the Willys JL unlimited are (in my opinion) even less of a deal because they cost as much or more as a similarly equipped gladiator but have weaker axles, pitiful gearing, and don't come with painted fenders.

Yeah I considered a JL unlimited as well because I don’t necessarily need a truck bed, but the gladiator is a better deal, and I will definitely still put the bed to use and it’ll be nice having the extra space. Plus I really like the look of the gladiators and the smoother ride over the unlimited as well. I thought the extra length of the gladiator would bother me but it’s not been an issue at all so far. Love mine!

I was just about to put in an order for one because soft tops are usually a special order where I live and even the sport models are a little hard to find. I ended up finding mine at a local dealer. Willys sport with soft top is basically a unicorn for my area. The only issue was I maybe would have preferred the hydro blue or gobi color, and the one they had was black. I didn’t want to deal with ordering delays or my trade-in value potentially going down (dealer gave me a very good trade in price in hopes to make the sale that day), so I jumped on the opportunity and snatched it up.

The black is growing on me though. I’ve never owned a black vehicle. Hard to keep looking nice, but I will admit that black looks stunning when it’s actually clean.

I have had a black BMW and we currently have a black FJ Cruiser. Dirt shows so quickly but boy when clean…sweet. I got the Sarge Green just cause I have always wanted a green jeep. My TJ was dark blue. The Sarge green hides regular dirt pretty well.

I have a Willys. I've had no issues and with the Granite Gray it looks great. In hind sight I wish I got a Sport S with Max Tow just because it makes it a more complete truck. Eventually look to get an RV and the Willys won't cut it.
I’ve got a Willys and bought rubicon takeoffs and maxtow rear springs. After adding the rubi front springs, leveling kit max tow rear springs and rubi shocks it rides great and doesn’t squat. Yes, I’m missing the extra transmission cooler but I don’t tow more than a loaded 5x8 trailer regularly. Best of all worlds really. I’ve got 300 lbs of tools under my cover right now and you can’t tell at all.

My old 2-door was the Ocean Blue which was a dark blue. I really loved that color. The new Hydro Blue looks awesome, but depending on the lighting, it sometimes seems a bit too bright for me. I really like the shine you can get with the darker colors.

I love all the colors though, including black. The best color is the whichever one you own though, because I always see other colors and wish I had them. If I had Hydro Blue, I would see a Sarge Green in the wild and wish I had one. But wait, there goes Firecracker Red. Oh man I want that color instead. Ohhhh but the Gobi? Now that is the winner.

My wife really likes the Sarge Green. She seems to comment on them whenever we see one.

If I hadn't found my used 2021 overland for 43.8 with only 1600 miles on it, I would have absolutely been hunting down a willys. I couldn't have lived with the sport, as my wife and I need some of the luxury features, but I was ready to go all in on a brand new willys and just get leather added on by the dealer or something.

I am with OP's original post on how shocked I am with the number of gladiators I am seeing in stock, its truly astounding. Hilariously, some of the local dealers are still insistent on markups, but many aren't which makes it super easy to choose where to go, though I suspect the one dealer I nearly made a deal on wasn't ACTUALLY offering a markup, rather the salesman really wanted to steer me into a used wrangler, since we never worked up numbers on a new one like I wanted to.

I told my wife I think the gladiator issue is that the looks are incredibly polarizing, it took her since they first got announced to finally warm up to it, but on the other hand I see tons of them around, so I dunno why there are so many sitting around on dealer lots.

Basically, jeep is focusing on gladiators and Wranglers, as those are the cash cows. High profit margins. If you want to special order though, delays can be quite long
Long waits. I ordered February 25 and it’s built but still sitting on the lot in Toledo with no ETA. Maybe Toyota only builds what they can deliver.

Don't the dealerships arrange delivery?

Beats me. They said rail labor issues and cost of diesel. No idea when I’ll get an ETA.

Prices on vehicles are insane these days!! Jeeps have always been expensive, but I feel like the price premium between a Jeep and other vehicles have narrowed quite a bit.

Anyway, I ended up trading my 2-door for a 2022 soft top Willys Sport.

I now have 4 doors with back seats that can actually fit adults, plenty of utility and cargo space with the bed, the ability to go naked, and top tier off road capability with skid plates, anti spin rear diff and mud tires from the factory with the Willys package.

The only real competitor in the price range would be the Toyota Tacoma, and only if you stick with the SR5 trim. You would gain a bunch of fancy tech features with the Tacoma, but lose out on all the great features that make Jeeps what they are.

Anyway. My 2 cents.

Also, local dealer inventory for gladiators in general seem to thriving. Everything else, including Tacomas have very low inventory with dealer markups. In fact, Jeep is even offering some discounts and incentives currently. Do people not want Gladiators? Or is Jeep just able to keep up with production as opposed to everyone else? I sure see a lot of Gladiators driving around town.

Do you work for jeep?

Apples to apples, gladiator willy sport aint the best bang for the buck in truck terms.

Face the facts before making such a statement!

Hey OP, congrats in your trade. Im on the fence of trade my 2 door JL for a Gladiator. How you compare the ride quality betwenn the 2 door JL and the JT? Do you missed your little friend around town and specially in parking lots? Its the long wheel base and the exta long total of the JT bothering you?

Ride quality on the gladiator is much better. Highway driving in particular feels way better than the 2-door.

There’s been no scenario as of yet that had me wishing I had the smaller 2-door wheelbase. It depends on when you live though. I live in Omaha Nebraska. Everything around here is designed for larger vehicles. If I lived in downtown Chicago I might miss having the 2-door.

When I first saw the gladiator I definitely thought it looked funny. It grew on me until I liked it enough to purchase one. I never really warmed up to the 4 door wranglers though. I briefly considered a 4-door wrangler, but they still look a bit funny to me, and the gladiator has more utility with the bed.
