"Best" is subjective without outlining the criteria to determine what makes something the best.

If the best means you never get stuck, then my Audi A4 is the best off-roader, since it's never been stuck off-road.

And even the "best" is easily countered and equaled, as there are many devices on the market that improve the basic mechanical ability of the truck.

What makes something the best off-road truck?

1. Traction
2. The nut behind the wheel
3. Equipment
4. Power

All but one of those components is easily measured.

I've seen racers get in different race cars and have vastly different results. You could put an average driver in the best car and you might get slightly-better than average pace. You can put a great driver in the best car and you'll get the best pace. You can also put a great driver in an average car and get average results (there's more to this one that needs to be expounded upon, but it's not necessary).

Equipment only makes up one part of the equation.

... best off-road truck in the midsize class ... that would be tough to argue against, IMO

Just my completely biased opinion…

My JT = YES

Wife’s JL = YES

My 12 JKR = YES

But best in snow? Maybe our Subaru ?‍♂

Depends on what kind of Off-Road situations.

High speed off road situations really call for IFS suspension.

For rock crawling, and gnarly forest trails, solid axles are pretty dope for that.

Can't think of what would be better and why, although it might depend on your definition of off-road.

Maybe a rivian, but if we're talking mainstream, yes, this is the best.
I'm just waiting for the Rivian or the F150 Lightning to be out long enough to build a crawler or an Ultra4 buggy out of one.?

OTOH, the new Hummer is a trainwreck, saw one in SD this weekend and it's a joke to consider taking offroad. And this is coming from a former H2 driver, that thing was really capable where it would fit.
Ok I'm curious now, what made the Hummer EV a trainwreck? Was it the size?

Define "off road"..............

I saw a video of a Raptor pulling a semi back onto an icy road after it slid off the road.
Would Gladiator handle that?

Define "off road"

Before you can say anything is the best, or not, you have to define the criteria, set the expectations.
Isn't "what's the best............" for anything rather subjective unless you have specified the rules, expectations, defined limits?

EDIT - I see Michael beat me to it..............
Ya can't leave it open-ended.

I just wanted the best I could buy and obviously there is NO best but the gladiator seems to have a pretty good argument why people think it is the best. Thank you again everyone for your knowledge.

Opinions are like well everyone knows what.... my opinion is that it's what I wanted. But I'm a fan of solid axles end all reason less to fail in drive line. There is a good reasons many that off-road vehicles swap in solid axles. I plan on having the vehicle for many many years not changing vehicles as often as some change shoes. So it's the best for me. Things that I do feel are detrimental are how wide vehicles are becoming, from around 52-55 in wide to holy smokes 8 ft wide damn near. Great for side slopes and COG side to side but if the trail is 64 in wide your S.O.L. I liked the width of MJ, XJ, TJ at 60 in. then maybe few inches wider with tires n rims. IMHO some are getting silly with the "80s STOMPER" toy trucks look let alone having the back of truck sagging like it's overloaded or a filled baby's diaper.

They say the wrangler is the best off-road vehicle. Then does that mean the Jeep Gladiator is the best off-road truck? I am curious what people think as I am not a SME and would like to know.
Absofrigginlutely, yes. By a wide margin.

Show me the logistics for a Rivian doing more than a single day trip

Yes
Considering it’s a factory built truck, and not a specialty rig like a raptor.
It’s definitely the best factory off road truck.
Exponentially increases if you add a lift and bigger tires.
But stock with good tires, it’s not a pushover.

In my humble opinion.
