I agree with you to a point. Not everyone has buckets of money or retired with time on our hands and have only one vehicle .I started four wheeling in the mid 70s with my fathers k5 blazer (If he had known ).Since then I have had 5 - 6 2 door wranglers. This vehicle is capable yes the best .I would swing to a two door wrangler.I have been to one jeep jamboree in ATTICA INDIANA .I have been to SMORES IN MO. and a few other off road parks 4 badge of honor trails. This vehicle with the extra length is a night and day difference to a two door wrangler. My opinion JEEP stands for individuality ,you can mod them to your likings no one elses.I live in INDIANA so a lot of mud holes that I could careless to play in. I so enjoy rocks and climbing screw the mud.I feel I am with family when I am with other jeepers like when I am riding with the bike club. We are all different and enjoy different thigs I enjoy the common bond that we own a JEEP.
You build yours for you and we will build ours the way we want it.YES if I had an older jeep as a spare I would be beating the hell out of it .Everyone have a great day we are all brothers in the jeep world.
You mentioned about beating a spare beater Jeep. Back then we didn't have money for a spare Jeep either. But not always needed to hit the hardest trail ever. I remember magazines had maybe 1/3 content covering a trail or a run. They seemed to mention Rubicon like every single issue. If you did wheel back then you'd remember how budget cheap we were. That the best we did was a lift, tires and away we went because only rich guys could swing a LSD and winch.

☝ This x100.

It never ceases to amaze me that other people think they have the right to tell me what I can & can’t do with MY vehicle.
Mine is used first & foremost as my daily driver. It’s also used to get to hunting & fishing spots & giving rides to my grandkids. It will probably never see a badge of honor trail & that’s fine with me.
Start paying my gas, insurance, etc. & we’ll talk.
It also never ceases to amaze me how ppl fail to read the 1st post completely and get so easily offended because...

Nobody told you what tp do with your Jeep. Point being the whole Jeep experience turned into what we put into our Jeeps and not what we do with our Jeeps. They all seem to be built to take on the Rubicon trail yet nobody does it. I'm not doing that trail with my JT. But we have 1000's other options nowhere near that extreme

Really, to each its own, this is why we all know the Jeep platform is so capable and yet still showpieces. I for one love the outdoors and here in Cali have access to mountains, beaches, and deserts, been wheeling, camping, mtn biking a while. So, the JT fits the bill and I accessorize it based on need (RTT, lift, recovery, etc.) not so much bling. Heck I have some pinstripes already on this $60K+ JTR it's ok. And I see lots of rides in town with interesting add-ons, so what, it's their $$ as long as they enjoy it and give 'waves' LOL. It's after all JEEP, we know what that stands for.

See, this is exactly what we should hear about MORE. It's like for every trail running, post a JT in the wild, for every 1 its 99 posts on yet another build post, Seeing your plate and your set up I'd bet you know where Prewitt State Park is at. Not sure if I spelled it correctly. No crazy wheeling needed. Ideal for a Gladiator with a RTT

LOL Yes, 33's was the target size he man tires. Some crazies did 35's Yes, we did think exactly like this. I believe most Jeeps locking door was a moot point. Now key fobs, not many are being stilen without either that fob or put on a tow hook. I don't think $7 filled the tank but we made it to Friday with precise calculations as if we did a B52 flight plan.

Eh, IMO, there are multiple types of JT buyers:
  1. Die hard Jeepers
  2. Outdoor adventurers
  3. People needing a decently priced 4wd for practical reasons
  4. People wanting a vehicle that retains value
  5. People wanting something that's got a ton of aftermarket options
  6. People just wanting something fun to go topless with
  7. People that just like the look and need to get to work
  8. People that pull a small trailer for their business
  9. People that just like to hunt and fish
I'm sure the list could go on and on. I think often times, one person checks off a lot of those boxes. Other times, just one. I'm not a die hard jeeper that rock crawls, or an overlander. Will I go camping? Sure. But when I do, my focus isn't documenting the adventure, it's living in the moment, and I think a lot of people do the same thing. Will I take a pic when I think of it? Absolutely. But my adventures aren't centered around my Jeep. Not that there is anything wrong with those that are, because I see some awesome shit on here that the die hard jeepers/off roaders/overlanders do. Have I sunk a shit ton of money into my JTR? Yep. I have customized every vehicle that I have ever owned, that's who I am.

Another thing, is that this is a forum about a particular vehicle, accessible to anyone with access to the internet, so you're gonna get all kinds of folks. I'm here to absorb and share knowledge, recommendations, and discuss JTs in general. And the forum is good for an occasional laugh too. I think that's what this forum is for. Almost like an online car show where 99% of the cars are all one make and model. Stories and adventures are still shared all the time, but like someone said earlier, most people's situation don't afford them them opportunity to go crawling, cross country camping, etc. And one person's adventure is another person's boredom. I could be at the beach in 20 mins, but a pic of my JT on the beach is boring as shit to me, so I'd never post it. Just my $.02
Awesome response. And yes you are correct. I focused more on enjoying the moment tooling around border field state park, coronado, silver strand I totally forgot to take pics. And overlander? LOL We are ALL overlanders unless you are bed ridden. Another point of contention I have with "overlanders" But like I said, IMO, we are obsessing on the paint brushes way more on the art itself. And sorry to hear about thinking your Jeep at the beach is boring. It isn't to me. Your list is accurate. Thing is #5 seem to totally dominate Jeep discussion and in turn the Jeep experience SEEM to become more that than actually taking a Jeep to the beach

Pareto principle. Move along ..
Kind of the idea except it would be a huge improvement to have 20% jeep experience. Here and FB its really like 5% what we did WITH and the rest is what we did TO or something to do about which trim does best.

I had to google that BTW. Now I know

Me? I come here for help and advice working on my Jeep, help, etc. Once I take it off the beaten path, the public sharing stops. That is my family and friends time. No pictures shared with anyone else, no videos taken, etc. That is the time when we leave everything and is only shared among us. My JT was off road within a week of purchase with ZERO mods. I have shared on here what I have been doing to my JT and ask for help or search for things to help me more with my experience, but what I do with it? That is my retreat from the world :)

Truthfully I don’t come here to hear about peoples adventures. I would just go to YouTube for that. I would rather see a video of it than someone telling me about it. I come here for the mods to see something different or hear if the parts are any good.

I wished I wheeled more but with a full-time job and kids involved in sports there just isn’t ample opportunity. I was just at bantam Jeep festival in June and it was awesome!
I didn't say it should only be about experiences, Here and other places, including YT, seemed to be about mods and trim levels, And the average joe suck at making videos So now we have youtube pros making them. Some are good, the others try to pull the "real life" pawn wars style TV stunts a bit much. I mean it's still produced and all pretty much turn into an advertisement. I mean, I also want to know what tires someone used on XYZ run.

A few more just a pic or two on the trail and a quick synopsis would help balance it out.

I post a few pics here and there of trips, Mods definitely so I can reflect on the path that got me to where my Jeep sits, and maybe to help someone avoid mistakes in their build. My stock Overland surprised many in the Jeep club. Hell, my first 2 badges were earned bone stock.

I haven't modded my jeep. I"m too busy taking it places or doing things with it to post.

I say that tongue in cheek but there is probably some truth. Many people flood for advice and then leave, creating a lot of "What lift for 37s" threads. Then maybe they go on adventures and never post here about it.

I've put 18,000 miles on my jeep in 10 months and have loved every second of it. I've not yet needed to put it in 4wd though despite many forest roads and multiple construction site vists, and a full midwest winter. The factory LSD is amazing i never knew how much they'd help.

I fall into the hunting fishing category but also the need a pickup to do pickup things. Like retrieving 6 3,000lb white oak logs to mill into slabs.

Simple - posers and mall crawlers are a thing, and have been for years. Its nothing new to the auto field. Plenty of people own Vette's and never track them and yet put turbos and power adders on them all the time. Jeeps have had a 15yr run up on popularity, so its no exception. Vast majority of these people are attention seekers living paycheck to paycheck...I say that because there's a strong correlation between the 2....brand association and attention seeking and poor finances.

Then you have the people that want to do a lot of stuff, like me...stuff that REQUIRES the modifying the Jeep quite heavily. What we DO TO the Jeep is a means to what we DO WITH the Jeep.

See, this is exactly what 99% Jeep experiences are like. Might be boring to some. Not to someone who lives elsewhere or those looking to get a Jeep. I prefer to see the actual use and if you didn't have to put it in 4 wd, let us know. There is a lot more to Jeep experiences than a certain trail. I mean, look how many gush over a rubber duck and a wave. It's not my thing, but OK.

Yeah, that is a point, vette owners. But Jeeps, c'mon. Such a versatile vehicle. From Trekking across Iceland to getting groceries. I mean, yeah, it's silly taking pics at the Ulta parking lot. But even my pic attached, bone stock Sport in some TJ side street has some interest lol. Issue being I only had it 24 hours. And Jeeps are highly recommended for Mexico due to, well, see the pic. Double that advice when it rains. And yes, ever since the JKU you think nearly everyone has or had one.
