  1. Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Roll Call

So, part one of the interior build is done. Part two will be water hook-up and passenger side furniture unit. But first is some testing and then some time in Europe. So not much will happen on this in the next two to three months.
  2. What did you do TO your Gladiator today? [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS, NO GUN TALK]

So, finished part one of our build project. Next week we're off for some testing ... ;-)
  3. A new hope ... (build journal and component reviews)

So, finished part one of our build project: And there were quite a few times when I wanted to shoot the designer of this furniture. It's certainly not IKEA-easy to put together. Last photo is me trying to reach a bolt that we basically made "unreachable" once the whole thing is put...
  4. A new hope ... (build journal and component reviews)

And a fun photo series from the last two days. Sorting out wiring: In the truck: Testing it: Reasonably happy with the current state: Putting the lid on: And there it is:
  5. What did you do TO your Gladiator today? [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS, NO GUN TALK]

Finished the first furniture piece and installed it, including electrical setup ...
  6. A new hope ... (build journal and component reviews)

Test coffee: And the first piece of furniture is ready for testing .... Missing in this part as of now: Proper wiring from inverter to an outlet, the grey cable is temporary The optional BCDC (missing some ring terminals to install it properly, ETA this weekend) Cabling for all the...
  7. A new hope ... (build journal and component reviews)

It's coming together: Final wiring and wire protection not quite done, but it's getting there. And it works, that's the best part.
  8. A new hope ... (build journal and component reviews)

Oh, and feel free to reach out if you have questions or if you want some input on plans or anything else I can help with.
  9. A new hope ... (build journal and component reviews)

@antwon412 – regarding 80/20 it really depends on how complex you want a storage unit to be. If you can keep it very simple, 80/20 is quick and easy. It gets complicated very fast if you want to build "real furniture", one problem is the need to make accurate cuts. What and how you build on a...
  10. A new hope ... (build journal and component reviews)

I think I might have to clean this up just a little bit ... ;-) Just making sure we have all the bits and pieces in place to finish the final wiring setup. Been asking myself why the heck these components can't standardize just a little bit. The terminals are all on different heights (copper...
  11. Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Roll Call

That makes sense. We have accepted the weight for better livability since we don’t go on difficult trails.
  12. Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Roll Call

Right, I was mainly commenting on the "looking at building a seat delete platform and doing something other than plywood for weight savings" part. I can see that there are some possible weight savings on the bed platform (you mean the "sleeping bed", not the "truck bed", right?). Same is true...
  13. Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Roll Call

I'm not sure it's worth the effort going to exotic (and expensive) materials. Our platform (both sides together) is around 16.5kg or around 36.4lbs. We could have saved more weight by going with a low platform and no tracks, that would have made the minimum weight about 13.2kg (~29lbs) This is...
  14. A new hope ... (build journal and component reviews)

Thanks for the kind words! There are some comments on this from my side though: Personally, I would do the build again (although different). My wife would probably not. It's just taking too long. Part of the problem is that we try to match a professional quality build in a hobbyist (at best)...
  15. [SOLVED] Can't edit/delete older posts

That isn't a bad policy as long as there is help available when needed (either moderation or technical administration). I'm perfectly okay with that.
  16. [SOLVED] Can't edit/delete older posts

Update on this: it's back. Thanks to the admins! Nobody actually reacted to my post or my "contact request", but at least the ability to edit/delete older posts is back.
  17. A new hope ... (build journal and component reviews)

So, again, everything is taking forever. If we had a proper workshop (we just don't have the space even for a small workbench in the garage or so, tiny houses in CA), it would go about twice as fast or for some things even faster. Tools I'm really missing, to cut down the time very...
  18. Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Roll Call

Just some fun impression ... it's a miracle I haven't had a 4mm hex wrench grow out of my hand ...
  19. Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Roll Call

Ah, another 4mm hex key - LOL, can't have enough of these if you work with 25 Series 80/20. I have about a dozen by now ... ;-) Got the filler plate today and so far it looks good. Not yet installed, just prepped the camera and will likely install the filler tomorrow. Looking forward to a more...
  20. A new hope ... (build journal and component reviews)

Done. Took about 90 minutes today to get exact measurements, cutting, tapping, and assembly for the "footprint" done. Getting better ... Working on: Put the finishing touches on the "utility module", install it as well as the bench. now since we already have all the parts in the camper...
