  1. First real world review of the Gladiator Rubicon Diesel

And you think this "new" one is going to be any different? They earned their reputation. They ought to be almost giving them away if they want to earn my confidence. You go first.
  2. Nice honest review on EcoDiesel

Excellent points to consider, if only people thought it about who and what they are voting for, but that's another topic. I would hold off on the ecodiesel just because of its history, it's been the subject of a huge recall because of fire danger, involved in a lawsuit that settled for 800...
  3. First real world review of the Gladiator Rubicon Diesel

Nothing in that review about the problematic history of the eco-diesel that is made in Italy. It's been the subject of a 800 million dollar lawsuit and had a huge recall because of a fire danger. Also it gets a very bad rating from the Automobile Protection Association for its history of main...
  4. House of Diesel Retro Gladiator EcoDiesel

Does anyone know if this eco-diesel engine is made in Italy? I'm reading as far as diesel engines go, it's reputation is rapidly sliding and people are not getting the high mileage you expect out of a diesel engine. As I understand it the old cummings straight 6 was a beast that never died, of...
  5. Multi cylinder misfire

Bill, reading your comment that it is only few having this problem is somewhat soothing considering everything I am reading here and in other threads. I just passed 2k miles on my JTR and no problems YET (knock on wood). How many owners do you think are having this problem, percentage wise...
  6. Re-engineering the brick (keyfob)

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is how easy will it be to change the FOB battery? I am very happy with the AJT fob except for the hour it takes to get that battery into it. It seems to be a common challenge for the AJT fob. I dread thinking about having to change that battery.
  7. Shower / Hot Water on-board system

I think I found just what I was dreaming of jerry rigging all ready and done for me. I looked at DIY pvc piping to hold water for showers or dish washing. Looked at putting in a tank with a 12v water pump, and even the propane hot water heaters. For the wife you know, me? A wet rag and a...
  8. Which Midland GMRS radio, MXT400 or MXT275?

Believe it or not, in the early 70's I was a radioman in the Navy. We had old transmitters the size of commercial fridges, sometimes we had to give them a running kick to get them to work. Trying to find a freq with no interference to work on was our biggest challenge. We tried every antenna we...
  9. Which Midland GMRS radio, MXT400 or MXT275?

I hear you, but I'm not getting into it as a hobby, nor do I want to program anything or partake in any SAR ops. I just want simple vehicle to vehicle comms for road trips. Still, I'm glad there are people like yourself helping out as you can. Be nice if there was an emergency broadcast channel...
  10. Which Midland GMRS radio, MXT400 or MXT275?

Yes, exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you for clarifying. Sorry if I didn't quite put the question right, but you got it. I believe I will be going with the MXT275 with most things considered. I like that the speaker and controls are in the microphone. I'm a little hard of hearing, so that...
  11. No bed power? No problem! $9.99 do it yourself.

Well for about 10 bucks a pop on these they are cheap enough to replace every few years if you want. Another option is to purchase some marine all weather switches, a little more money but they might address your worries...
  12. GMRS Use (Rules, Courtesy, Call Sign/Channel Display, Jeep Unique)

Thank you for clarifying what has been perplexing me about repeater channels. I have bookmarked your website for further reference. Tks!
  13. GMRS Use (Rules, Courtesy, Call Sign/Channel Display, Jeep Unique)

Will do thanks, already started investigating this topic. I thought the repeaters operated on a duplex mode allowing us to remain on the same channel in a simplex mode while in vehicle to vehicle comms still using high power mode if we chose to.
  14. Which Midland GMRS radio, MXT400 or MXT275?

Just purchased the lic/fee from the FCC website. Easy enough, good for ten years and for the whole family. Just found out the MXT400 doesn't have the weather channels like the 275. Dang it. Still undecided which way to go.
  15. GMRS Use (Rules, Courtesy, Call Sign/Channel Display, Jeep Unique)

Being new to GMRS, I have several questions about the repeater channels. I've read some of these channels (15-22) are run by clubs and can be for members only. I saw a mapping data base of these repeater sites and noticed some even want a fee or are just open to everyone. Let's say a buddy and I...
  16. Which Midland GMRS radio, MXT400 or MXT275?

Thanks, good info. Saw this video and several others actually. Cleared up somethings and makes me question other things. I may be over thinking this . OK, if channels 15-22 are repeater channels and the only channels you can use high power on, since the other channels are restricted to 5 watts...
  17. Which Midland GMRS radio, MXT400 or MXT275?

In somewhat of a pickle in trying to decide which Midland GMRS mobile radio set to go with. I like the MXT400 as it has a stated 40 watts of power. The MXT275 rings my bell because it is so small it can be easily mounted almost anywhere and all the controls are on the mic, but it has an...
  18. New Base Jeep and very OVER whelmed by modification options

You need to clarify your point then, whatever it is.
  19. New Base Jeep and very OVER whelmed by modification options

You probably never heard of a JC Whitney catalogue too. Some of us are as old as dirt and remember things from way back. Didn't take it anywhere it didn't need to go. A correction is a correction, nothing more.
  20. New Base Jeep and very OVER whelmed by modification options

I believe you took it wrong. If anything, one could say the Honda Civic introduction in this country came way after people were modifying Jeeps, making it a bad analogy. Jeeps have been modified since WWII and substantially.
