  1. Deeper Gearing For The Manual

I'm at 4.56 on 34" (BFG 35s), and its pretty much perfect. I'd say 4:10 would be more than fine for 33's, but if you have to re-gear, might as well future proof it. I'd be comfy up to 37s on my gearing, I don't think 4.88 would be needed unless you never hit 70mph. FWIW, 85 is effectively max...
  2. Freeway Travel with Doors off

While we're on the subject... I almost made a thread about this hat but stopped myself. In the fall & early spring, I fight the mental battle of how cold I will suffer in the morning to enjoy the gorgeous afternoons.... my limit is around 55-60 degrees, properly bundled. I can do 55 with my...
  3. Freeway Travel with Doors off

Just stripped the doors last night for the week, I do 20miles each way on I40 east of Little Rock. Heavy truck traffic. -If earplugs (recommended), use the foam ones so the wind isn't whistling through the string or rubber stem. -Anything below 75 degrees F will freeze you after 20m or so...
  4. Low profile front bumper

Frame chop time!! Kevin & Chris of LiteBrite [studios?] just finished a good one on their JLU.... this is about as good as it gets right here. FRAME CHOP ON A JEEP WRANGLER JLU RUBICON! - YouTube
  5. My tailgate falls open sometimes...

I had LineX sprayed, and had it fall open once after that.... I was headed to the Icehouse with my buddy's shiny steel-belted Budweiser-branded Coleman icechest, took off, made a few turns, then heard a bump and skitter sound.... looked back and saw that thing sliding down the street like a...
  6. Gun guys (and gals)

Ya'll did it! Another bucket of fun, a PPK/S 22lr, with a can. My Remington 3200 Trap gun My H&R Handi Rifle, in 300BLK (licensed by AAC), with a can My Wife's deer rifle i built for her birthday (Remington M7, 308) My bicentennial 1911 from Remington, sold to employees through a...
  7. Anyone have the Supertop 2 from Bestop installed on their rig?

I see my truck's already been showed off here, but oh well. I've installed the Twill topper twice now (had a thief cut through 3 layers of vinyl to get in my cab). my observations: I love it, I love the look (specifically twill on twill). I love how it changes the proportions of the truck, and...
  8. First Chopoed Bed Gladiator I’ve Seen In Person

For as much effort as it will take to clean up, I'd have sold the box, bobbed the frame, and built from there... Truggy it up. You could be much more efficient with that space installing a tube rack and fenders...
  9. What limits towing on manual transmission?

THIS. Plus, with 4.56 gears on 315BFGs, I'm banging through gears like a dump truck to get up to speed, it make it feel more fun. I could probably take off in 2nd, and I'm cruising in a 40mph zone in 4th, but it feels so much more "trucky" this way... especially with the "high and covered...
  10. What limits towing on manual transmission?

I've got a Centerforce on the way (any day now?), for two reasons.. One (and I suppose the main reason) is to increase the towing capacity. The other is to definitively alleviate the "recall" problem... In both cases, if the factory clutch starts slipping at highway speeds, fire is a...
  11. Anyone running Steel wheels - either stock oem wheels, set of spares or otherwise? Got any pics?

They just look like the wheel covers fell off, to me.... They're nearly as expensive as the Pro-Comp or the Ebay knockoffs thereof, but those do have a lot more sticky-outie.
  12. LSPI / Engine Knock - how many are using ESS?

The only light on the dash was the auto start/stop unavailable message. I didn't really think to hook up JScan, since there wasn't a check engine light, they just said "Both issues are pulling transmission errors"
  13. LSPI / Engine Knock - how many are using ESS?

Here's another interesting anecdote to add to tall this confusion about what appears to be an increasingly gremlin-ridden truck.... I've got (2) "separate" issues right now. One is the reverse sensor (I guess in the trans?) seems to be giving an intermittent signal. ~50% of the time the back...
  14. Would you say "Powertrain" or "Bumper to bumper"?

Finally got the ole covered wagon into the dealership today, turns out BOTH of these issues are pulling transmission errors, so they'll be covered under warranty, but it's gonna be a wait for shop time & repairs. They don't know if they'll be swapping the trans, or not. On a separate note, if...
  15. What's hanging on your rearview mirror.

Well... this thread is a real winner so far! haha Slightly on topic, when I drive onsite (within the fenced perimeter) of my work, I have to have a plastic hang-tag. Before I flipped the mirror, it used to swing somewhat normally, but after the mirror flip, It swings so freely and unencumbered...
  16. Exo-cage for JT?

Keep in mind, all those Rovers are a single tub, we have a separately mounted cab and bed that flex independently with the frame. Probably not enough to rule this out, but the rack/cage (and mount points) would either have to be strong enough to keep the two moving as one, or flexible enough to...
  17. Anyone running Steel wheels - either stock oem wheels, set of spares or otherwise? Got any pics?

I didn't read online that my wheels came without center caps, but the 4WP shop grabbed a set off the shelf and slapped em on. I just now (when looking up a P/N for ya'll) realized the Pro Comp branded ones are actually gloss, possibly powder coated. Pro Comp 1330018 Center Cap in Gloss Black...
  18. New Engine Needed at 42k miles!?!?!

I had the heavy tick, and had read that for the most part they were swapping the engine out. All together, waiting for a tech to diag, then on backordered parts, then waiting on the work, it was in the shop for a month. My guess is either I got it in there before the damage was too bad, or...
  19. Anyone running Steel wheels - either stock oem wheels, set of spares or otherwise? Got any pics?

ooh, ME! I went with the Pro Comp 17X9s, I'm a fan of the d-window holes over the round holes. The only thing I wish was better is the center caps are already oxidizing and going gray/chalky... My busted bead and repair are in this thread. Hit a steel bollard pretty hard... New Steelies...
