Really awesome pics, thanks for sharing. I’ve done many trails in Moab, and wheeled in the Northeast and Midwest, but the Rubicon is definitely on my bucket list. Great to read a first-hand account.
P.S.—is that a next venture rear diff skid? How do you like it? Pricey but they look stout as hell.
My advice: don’t buy a diesel looking for cost savings. You will get better MPG (I’m around 20-21 around town where I couldn’t touch 15 in my old 3.6 JKU) but maintenance and fuel costs are way higher.
That said, I love the motor and the driving experience way more on the diesel so the extra...
I’ll say in this thread what I usually say in threads about Jeep capabilities: even a stock Sport on street tires is more capable than 95% of drivers out there. They’re amazingly capable machines that will go places that would scare the pants off of most people. And that’s bone stock!
There’s...
Lol, I pay nearly $800/year for registration here in NE and our roads aren’t amazing. Heck, my 50yo truck was $80/year till I changed it to a historical registration.
Keep in mind, this is a small sample size and only the people who have issues tend to show up for these threads. Tens of thousands of other Jeeps are on the road without any issues at all.
How about, folks should learn to drive their stock Jeeps before spending thousands on “off road” mods? The best thing I ever did for myself was learn to wheel with my stock JK.
Lots of people online who insist that a lift, 35” MTs and lockers are necessary to do anything…
Top of the world is awesome. I have only run it once and it was gnarlier than I expected, I suspect because there’s a lot of sections that have been dug out by side by sides and others going through. Not sure how much longer it will be doable in a stock Rubicon, for example.
All good! Not trying to give you a hard time, just saying that there is a fix. VW had a lot of issues with folks misfueling their vehicles. For a while their solution was to put stickers on them saying “diesel only,” but starting around 2013 they added a similar flap and it’s been a popular mod...
Hence why a lot of people remove them—so you can use any nozzle. Here’s 9 pages about it from the JL forum: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/alternative-filler-neck-for-large-diesel-nozzles.48252/
Known issue. Anti-idiot device a lot of manufacturers have been putting in the last few years to avoid consumers putting gas in their diesel cars.
Search “fuel filler neck” or “fuel discriminator” and there are a few threads here and at the JL forum on how to remove.
I did mine last week...
Imagine getting in a heated argument over… steering components? Regardless of what happened, OP has an answer to his question and should be able to fix it quite easily.
Could be a bent tie rod or drag link. Take a look underneath and see if anything (especially with scratches or scrapes) looks out of order.
Either way, on your drag link there’s a 15mm bolt (may have to remove skid to see it) and a knurled section towards the driver’s side. Park your Jeep dead...
Here you go. You have to pop out the HVAC panel, unscrew the UConnect cover and pop it out, then unscrew the panel itself, but from there it's super easy to run a cable and you can access the bottom of the coin tray deal directly.
I didn’t move the media port, but I did route a cable from the media port behind the HVAC console and UConnect screen, then cut a hole out of the dash tray and ran my cable to my phone mount there. Not as clean as installing a port up too but it’s way better than having a cable swinging around...
I have had crappy luck getting that to work. Tried OEM and Anker cables with intermittent luck. Never have any issues with the ports in the media section, but the one in the center console is touch and go for me.
