Did this tonight. Definitely one of the most tedious things I’ve done on a Jeep. Not technically difficult but I had a hell of a time getting the liner out once I removed the filler neck assembly from the Jeep. Mad props to anyone who did this while it was still on the Jeep.
Side note, anyone...
Anyone who’s done this have an extra filler neck insert? I can’t seem to find one online and I gorilla’d mine a little too hard and cracked the lip. Works fine now that it’s back installed, it’s just ugly.
I love my diesel, coming from 2 previous Jeeps with the 3.6 (which I thought was a fine engine). Cost be damned, it’s way more fun to drive. Love the torque and sound. And I definitely couldn’t do burnouts with either of my previous Jeeps…
So:
Rubicons are the only diesel JTs that come with 4:1.
The rest get the standard 2.73:1
If you’re in Europe, you can get full time 4WD, but those are our only options here in the states. If you want the lower tcase, buy a Rubi.
For what it’s worth… I have X2Os on both my trucks and love them. Pulled myself a few miles with one of them after blowing up a diff. And the other has worked flawlessly everywhere I’ve used it.
I have a Viking thimble. No issues over 6+ years of ownership and I like that you can use a shackle either way (pin side or shackle side) unlike a flatlink.
Yeah, there was no way mine was going on without the cut. I tried to stretch the plastic over it but it needed a couple of inches of give for that to work, which mine didn’t have.
My local ace fills propane tanks no problem. On a full size tank it’s not that much cheaper than an exchange but it makes a huge difference versus the green cans.
Respectfully disagree. Brake-lock/traction control are amazing and make a huge difference, but in certain situations (light front end or one wheel off the ground), there is no substitute for a real locker.
Probably putting an Aussie locker in my first JK. Had to make several trips to the hardware store for tools and then called around till I found someone with a bench vise I could use to take the diff apart.
