Picked up 2 Rubicon (m210/m220) axles (with my sisters JTR) with 5.38 Spicer Gears from FedEx Freight and dropped off to my mechanic. Replacing both axles after my Yukon 5.13 rear pinion disintegrated at 50k miles.
I lean toward keeping it and re gear but there are factors to consider
- intended use - daily driver, towing, trails, rocks?
- terrain - mountains and hills need re gear much more than flat land
- is 35 really the size tire you want ? Or are you going to go to 37s?
You can always put the...
Re gearing is a great choice. Whatever you do, don’t use Yukon brand gears!!!!!! https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/yukon-gear-fail-at-50k-miles.88590/
Agreed. A weak 60 is pretty strong. The big hit for the axles, drive shaft, and new wheels with full floaters doesn’t seem worth it for regular people on a realistic budget, like me doing mild trails, camping, hunting, daily driver.
Thanks. I'm not seeing a rear Fusion D44 - just a front. I'm guessing no one wants to compete with re gear shops. The Fusion price - $6700 is the best I've seen and I might end up going this way - still need a new drive shaft so looking at Probably $8k
Not sure what European spec is. In the US the wide M220 axles are only on Rubicon, Mojave and ax Tow Sport-S. The standard M220 is on everything else. The differential internals are all identical - the shafts and obviously axle housings are different to accommodate the width increase.

Does anyone make an aftermarket mildly "built" wide - Gladiator Rubicon M220 (Advantek Dana 44) axle with a locker? Every upgrade seems to be Dana 60 - at very high cost (Like $8k+ shipping/tax) and adds additional costs with the need for new drive shaft (Another $1-2k) if you go semi float - 5...
Some thoughts. Haven't done an Advantek axle but done a few Dana 44s so YMMV...
First - verify the seal is actually leaking -- some shops make stuff up to get $$$.
Get the exploded view diagram and get the proper crush sleeve and any spacers, caps, shims, seals, and a new nut that you need...
