Heat, bfh, pickle fork, PB blaster and profanity. Hit it on the side with the bfh when heating and spray down. Then try the pickle fork. My JT was actually the easiest one Iāve ever done but weāve had relatively mild winters the last few years in PA so less corrosion. My JK was a nightmare...
I went with Dewalt. My brother who has a truck and trailer shop uses Milwaukee. Iāve used both when we put my lift on my JTR on his lift at his shop. Dewalt is ok for my use but his Milwaukee stuff is tougher, batteries seem to last longer and generally more expensive too, even with his...
The only thing I buy is Jeep parts and tools. The basic concept of renting them is reasonable but I like having my own tools and the pride of using tools I got that were handed down from my grandfather to my dad and now me ā¦someday to my son, who now has a 2004 TJ and is gonna need tools.
Assuming the control arm is the correct length and youāve compared the old one and the new oneā¦.
As previously described, loosen the other control arm bolts and donāt tighten any of these to the torque spec until you have all 4 tires on the ground, to avoid bushing bind.
With the frame...
With a grinder, anything is possible. Iād grind/cut that thing down /hack off the part hanging down to make it level to the frame in a heartbeat with no worries. Almost goes without saying (but not quite)ā¦. Iām not an engineer, didnāt stay at a Holiday inn last night, and YMMV. Good luck and...
37s 5.13 gears, and stock axles on my 2020 Rubi. Weighs about 5,900. 45k miles - towing, camping, hunting, offroad parks, trips from PA to Yellowstone, etc. and no issues with axles. I spent my money on upgraded steering, shocks and control arm joints - all shot at 40k miles
Bottom Line Up Front - stock size tires and wheels are highly unlikely to cause major problems. The JT platform was designed with 35ā tires in mind. YMMV
Getting different numbers from here but similar story https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=245-70r17-285-70r17
I use rattlecan Rustoleum bed liner. I have Ace rock rails that I use it on too when I scuff them up.

As most have said - recovery gear, tools, first aid, comms, food, water.
Not fancy or Instagram ready but this stuff went with me to Yellowstone - camping in Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota.
