Yes, but that voltage you are sending has to have a return path back to the source. The small black wire MAY connect to the main black and black/white. You can check it with a meter. If it does then you don't need to connect it.

The black on the 3-pin connector is the return for the switch (and LED) so it needs to be grounded.
