The new Cherokee came out with the original Jeep ESS system and it had a single battery. I think too many batteries were dying during the auto stop restart and stranding people in traffic so the two battery system was developed but never retrofitted to the Cherokee.
The Cherokee may have different thresholds since it's a single battery system instead of a two battery system like the Gladiator. Both voltages are too low.
There were no visible issues with any parts until they got to the Cam Phaser Actuator and noticed that the plunger was sticking. I'm still live monitoring the misfires with Jscan and it looks pretty good after a few short trips.
Well, things went downhill a few days after I got it back with misc misfires on all cylinders and a uneven idle. Back to the dealer and after a few more cam related parts replacements it looks like the problem was a defective Cam Phaser Actuator. Fingers crossed.
My wife thought she wanted a Compass, we even test drove one and she liked it. I convinced her to test drive a Cherokee and after going about 100 feet in the parking lot she realized how much better the Cherokee rides. The 3.2 in the Cherokee is the same engine as the 3.6, it just has smaller...
The "not ready charging" message is based on the battery sensor's reporting of the main battery, the system has no way of knowing the status of the aux battery except for a brief pass/fail test of the aux battery every cold start. If the aux battery fails this test, the error light comes on and...
My JT started getting intermittent P0300 (misc misfire) errors recently and I could tell there were additional misfires occurring that weren't generating errors. So I started monitoring the engine with Jscan's Live Data monitoring to see what was happening and to hopefully get some meaningful...
Yes. They weren't aware of that TSB until I brought it to their attention. They inspected and compared the new and old cams and could not see any visible difference. Their conclusion was it's probably a tone ring issue.
I have a JLU Sport and a JT sport. You will notice a difference driving on the highway, the JT is smoother and tracks better. Some is do to the extra length, but I expect some is due to different suspension.
I used jscan to monitor for the misc misfires that started generating P300 errors a couple months ago. The P300 errors would come and go, but I found that the odd cylinders were having frequent misfires that didn't always generate the error.
Build date: 11/17/19
Mileage when it first occurred: 5500ish (not puttying a lot of miles on it)
How many times has it occurred: Eventually every trip
What exact codes did it throw: P300, also live monitored with Jsacn and saw misfires on cylinders 1,3 and 5.
Currently waiting at the dealer...
If during a cold start the initial attempt fails with the dash going blank and then it starts on the second try, the ESS warning light means the aux battery failed it's cold start test. If the ESS warning turns on while driving it means the ESS system was disabled due to a non-ESS related issue...
