Thank you. Yes it is a all aluminum tilt bed “Texas Roll Back” trailer that I borrow from a friend. He has it for some restored MG convertibles that are pretty low.
The CJ5 definitely has thicker sheet metal, and it also has a Matkins frame, which I am sure is pretty heavy. And an SM465 transmission, which is also a heavy chunk of steel and cast iron. The Warn 8274 has rope on it, to save weight, haha.
10500 GVW. I will update with the weight of the glad and empty trailer. I was surprised, the trailer is aluminum and I thought the 1956 CJ5 would be light. It towed from the pacific to Tahoe effortlessly and averaged 12.9 mpg. Oh, and that is 30lbs in the airlift bags.
I have used many brake controllers in many vehicles and the Curt Echo is my favorite thus far. No ’catch’ that I have found towing from California coast to the mountains of Idaho, Oregon, and Colorado. I originally bought it to use until the Mopar controller came out, but I am not replacing it.
The only thing I’m curious about is this specific scenario:
- you are sitting inside the vehicle with all doors closed and unlocked
- the engine is not running
- you open the driver door
- you press the power door lock switch on the inside of the driver door panel
- you exit the vehicle and shut...
35,000 mile update. No issues and still enjoying the Gladiator. The last oil change was done after most of the miles were accumulated towing my camp trailer, about 5500 lbs., around and over the mountains of California, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, and Oregon. The oil analysis report from...
Thanks for posting about that; this is the first that I have seen of it. I am using the Curt Echo frequently and really like it. I originally bought it to fill in until the Mopar controller became available but having towed my trailer about 10k+ miles with it I can find no reason to replace it...
I have a Warn M8-S mounted in the factory bumper. There is a pic here

Dan, the bolt lock attached to existing holes, as I recall, but they supply rivets of a larger diameter than the rivet gun I have so I used stainless bolts with nylock nuts. Bolt lock supplies a pre cut grill for all of the Jeep models except the Gladiator so you will have to cut a few ‘cells’...
I put a Bolt hood lock on my Gladiator and am real happy with it. The install was pretty straightforward (I did use bolts rather than the supplied rivets), and it has worked as expected. Allayed my concerns of someone opening the hood and monkeying with the tender bits while I leave it parked in...
I installed mine (driver door only) day before yesterday and it was very straightforward. My window bolts were not recalcitrant, but the door panel clips/pins were stout and needed more prying and pulling than I expected.
The Tazer activated it fine and it has been working great! This has been...
Doh! I do indeed have that button and ignored it somehow. Thanks! The double tap to activate the camera is actually really handy. I had used the auto camera activation with turn signals but found that it interfered with the radio so I turned it off. I like this simple, manual, activation much...
AZJT, a silly question, but; what “mute” button? I saw that indicated in the Tazer instructions, but I have not found the mute button. I imagine that that the answer will cause a palm/forehead, haha.
I have had the Mountain Off-road dead pedal in my Gladiator for about 10,000 miles and and real happy with it. I mounted my in the longest leg setting and it has not moved.
