Always have a nice quality headlamp in the console.
But beyond that the new led Maglites are pretty nice. Configurable button and operating modes...
Here's the mount I use
From Fishbone. Unfortunately I had to completely re bend how it attached to the roll bar, but I'm happy with the final...
Continuing down this rabbit hole, I've been considering metal cloak's option:

I belive you and don't have the quad lock suction, but in my general experience, I've never seen a suction cup stay attached to windshield through three seasons. The summer is warm in Colorado and the winter is cold... seems like that may contribute to them failing and me swearing them off forever.
Same. Last week, showed 40% full. Went up a steep off angle incline (>30 pitch and >15 roll) and I'm pretty sure (but not sure) that's why/when my gauge suddenly went red and started reading ~300 miles left to no start. Put a single 2.5 gal box in and I was back up to like 85 or 90 percent.
So...
I have the vibe dampener on my XR650, but it appears to be made for the v-twin guys that have super serious vibration problems (like i enjoyed on my Buell years ago). You don't want/need the vibration dampener on a big vehicle. It's for high frequency vibes, not big jolts.
Ok ladies, back on topic...
Op requested long term usage and legit feedback
I've had quadlock in my LJ and XR650 for years. And my mountain bike. Works wonderfully! No suction cup, only hard mounts.
I'm happy with the case protection too.
Here's pictures of my setup in the JT

Yeah, sounds nearly right to me!
Privacy code doesn't give privacy. It only allows more usage of less frequencies. So people don't hear each other. You can Google the term "tone squelch" or "code squelch". I've heard there is some incompatibility between brands like you say, but I've never...
Yep you got it; 0 dB of directivity is more flood like, and 6 dB is more more spot like...more directive.
We're ignoring antenna efficiency in this conversation (the difference between gain and directivity), which would confuse more than necessary. So let's just keep it simple.
We're saying the same thing. The antenna directivity has to be aimed at your intended direction for that to help. But 5 dB gain in radio power has no directivity, so that's what the takeaway should have been to readers.
Echoing radio guy, yeah the 5 dB makes a difference. Keep in mind that a 6 dB increase in the system (antenna gain or power or both) will double your range, so that's quite a bit in practice.
Also I always use dBi, never dBd. But for those of you not radio antenna types, 2.15 dBi equals 0 dBd...
Bah! I'm so wrong!

Well at least around here not many that would help me, but I do appreciate being corrected!
Well my info is dated, but once upon a time it was $10 for a 10 year Ham license, and $75 for a 5 year GMRS license.
Hmm. Let me look.
ok, also found this:
and this:
See what happens in just a few years! All my info is wrong!!
:- D
So now my opinion is also wrong (yes opinions can be...
I feel like the community is completely missing the MURS unlicensed bands (one guy on this thread did mention it) . I repeat, no license needed for MURS. Maybe the downside is it takes a little more tech understanding to set it up, but I dislike having to pay for a license when I don't have to...
Well yeah, that's the name of the game. When you get down to one card left, you have to say uno before somebody catches you forgetting. When you draw, you draw only one card. I have some co workers that just keep drawing. Hey! It's named Uno, remember! They don't care about the rules i guess...
So this is what I wrote down last night:
2000 RPM: 6th gear: 56 mph
2000 RPM: 7th gear: 67 mph
2000 RPM: 8th gear: over 80 mph
1500 RPM: 8th gear: 62 mph
And I add that 4th row because driving around the vehicle wants to cruise around 1500 RPM. Of course with the pedal to the metal, it shifts...
I may be a nobody on this forum, but I think you merely misunderstand me. Respectfully, I don't really want to debate it in this thread beyond pointing out two simple things:
1. Torque multiplication. With a change in gearing, some amount of stress moves from one side of the gears to the other...
