Hey everyone,
When I got my engine swapped to a 392, I was convinced to put the winch as well as the 2 Viair compressors on 2 separate 100 amp breakers. I had no issues with the compressors until recently. They pop while they fill the 2 bottles. The CB for the winch also popped while I was pulling a friend on the trail this last weekend. This was the first time that I had to use the winch since I got it rewired.
I think it is important to say that I live in AZ and also the 392 does run hotter than the V6. I wanted to mention this because someone told me that since the breakers are in the engine bay, maybe they are getting too hot.
I am trying to figure out what I could do to fix the issue, other than just rewire them straight to the battery. Although I have considered that also.
These are some of the recommendations I had so far.
1-change the CB for the winch to a 300 amp breaker. If you look at the Smittybuilt winch manual it shows that to pull the full 10.000 lbs, it draws over 400 amps. I cant find a 400 amp breaker for vehicles but I found a 300 amp one. Plus 400 seems excessive.
2- swap both breakers to a cooler location. I was thinking under the rear seat. But I was also thinking what if they get hot and start a fire?
3-connect both directly to the battery. But wouldn't I lose protection? Could that damage the vehicle electrical system? Or those items electrical system?

Thank you all for your help
Alex

400amp fuse it what I would use for the winch. I have not looked up the shitty built winch specs to see what it cam draw at max load. That would be a good idea for anyone installing aftermarket parts.

You could have a bad connection leading to higher amperages. Air compressors and winch doing the same thing, I'd look at the ground, either the connection at the fender or at the main battery. Look at the positive connections as well.

remove the circuit breaker from the winch and either go with a marine grade manual shut off switch from Bluesea systems or go with a remote switch controlled by a AUX button.

If the wires start smoking on a pull then you are doing something wrong.

for you air compressor, upgrade you breaker size based on the amps the motor pulls and add 50 to it.

Make sure the wires used are the right gauge for the amps used and verify clean solid grounds.

UPDATE
First of all thank you for the suggestions, I am definitely going to keep those in mind.
So I called Viair and they said it could be a bad connection, or a blockage in the air lines. So I ran the compressors with the engine off. And it worked. It filled the 2 tanks and didnt pop the breaker.
So it leaves me with 3 options.
1.Try another 100 amp breaker, (Viair said that they use a 80 amp fuse, and was surprised to hear that the 100 amp breaker was popping.) When I first got my Jeep after the upgrades it was summer and that breaker did not pop.
2.Remove the breaker all together and go straight to the battery...hopefully when they installed the compressors they left the 80 amp fuse.
3.Move the breakers to a cooler location...but where?

PS-definitely looking into the bluesea manual shut off. But will that work also as a breaker and pop if it gets too hot?

Not familiar with the product you want to use, but disconnect switches are just that disconnects. They do have ratings for current load. You would have to gett a switch whose rating is higher than your load.
