I'll try to summarize this so its not so long. 2020 Overland with the 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster (not radio) The digital display is glitching and turning solid white. It's failing. I sourced a new one from the online dealer I usually use. Bought it then received an email stating this was an "in person only" item, meaning they have to keep the old one. No big deal, I don't want the old one back. They're in NY and I'm in TN so this is a no deal. So I call up my local dealer and give them the pt #. I get the same story about dealer only swap. Aside from my local being $300 higher, here's my issue with them. They are saying I have to drop off, then they'll order the part. They have to keep the truck until the part arrives and there's no eta. He said normally instrument clusters show up in about 2 weeks but this one is a special order, so no eta. Also says it will have to be programmed, which I disagree with. All the info is stored in the trucks computer but maybe I'm wrong. So my questions are, has anyone here replaced an instrument cluster? Is it plug n play or does it need to be programmed? There are some Chinese aftermarket options on Amazon but I'm not sure about the quality/integration of those units. Would a junkyard cluster from a more widely available Wrangler work on a JT?

2020 will not have a 12.3" cluster. It will be 7.0" for that year Overland.

Local dealership is right, they have to record your mileage that is stored both in the PCM and cluster independently of each other. If they cannot ascertain your current mileage from the defect cluster, they will use the PCM stored mileage and have your new cluster programed to that mileage off the vehicle.

In theory per Federal Law, they could give you zero mileage cluster and slap a label in the door jam with that info but then your vehicle should it get sold or go through some type of state vehicle inspection will get flagged with a odometer discrepancy and your title will get labeled as such and will affect future resale value. That is why even though it is inconvenient to leave it with the dealership, better to let them reprogram the new cluster to current know mileage.

Other option at your cost though would be to get a used cluster and have it sent to a place like United Radio that will program it for a flat $200 ish or so fee but that is extra cost on top of buying the used replacement cluster.

Have to pick your poison here.

You're correct about the size. In my limited research I was seeing 12.3 in the aftermarket. The aftermarket one is a completely digital and is 12.3. The oem one is indeed the 7". I definitely want the odometer to read correct so programming will be part of the cost I'll have to absorb. I'm not so hung up on the cost as much as I am on the undetermined amount of time the truck has to sit at the dealer. If they would order the part then let me bring it in to do the swap it would be a non issue. It makes no sense to park a usable vehicle for who knows how long. The needle speedo still works so its not for a safety issue.

I will check with United Radio to inquire if they could repair this cluster. @Hootbro That was a good idea, thanks
