Two naive tire questions 32 vs 33 inch tire

My Willys stock tires are considered 32 inch. Take off rubicon’s are 33 inch. What clearance is actually gained going from 32 to 33? Also, would such a small upgrade require a computer flash?

Overland stock tires are called 32s - they are 32.2"
Rubicon stock A/Ts are called 33s - they are actually 32.8"
That means the difference is .6"
That further means the truck is lifted a WHOPPING HUGE, brace yourself for it - about a quarter inch - .3"
I haven't worked out the math - but if you are looking for clearance on big rocks, don't bother with such a small amount, IMO. IF it's for looks, 33's look great, IMO - I ran Rubicon take-offs on my Overland for a while and IN MY OWN OPINION, it looked fine.

Check ACTUAL tire diameter, not what people call them. I guess 33s sounds better than 32.8s and is easier to say and type.

It's kind of like display sizes for monitors and TV's, 65" "class" TV with a 64.3" actual viewing size.

The 33x10.5R15's I ran on my YJ measured 32.5" when I put them on and 32. 2" when I took them off and replaced them with the 32.5" Falken AT's from my JTR. That's measured on the truck from the top of the tire with a 3' spirit level and a tape measure.

The size of the mold isn't the size of the mounted tire, width of the rim can impact that as well.

Everyone knows the 31's are smaller than the 33's are smaller than the 35's, close enough for horseshoes.

With tire compression under load the difference isn't even half the difference in height.

Your speedo may be off by a smidge, but not enough to get you into trouble.

Hardly off at all - I was running the Rubicon "33s" when I checked my speedometer against my phone and against my Garmin - it was spot on to the 10th of a mile after 17 miles.
I did adjust it the smallest increment possible when I put the Generals on, but it was still so bloody close it was crazy. So yes - what you said.

Yup - two cousins retired from Bridgestone/Firestone a while back. One actually had something to do with tires and molds, the other was more technical in his job. What many people don't now about tires is - well, not unexpected, I guess, unless you worked where they worked.
