12v dash port constant power

So, doing research to make the port constant power instead of switched. I saw the jumper wire deal, but then I ran across this. Has anyone used this?

I'd love to help, but I guess I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to accomplish. Could you give some more details on your application and the result you want to achieve? Sounds like you might be better off hardwiring your accessory in rather than messing with the port, but there are ways around that as well if your situation needs it.

I mean, there's a reason it isn't hot 100% of the time, and that's related to preventing battery drain. What's the application? There might be better solutions.

I went with the Cool Tech jumper. Works perfectly.

Do you have the AUX switches? My first suggestion would be to wire in whatever accessory you're trying to power to the AUX leads behind the glove box. That's the cleanest and least intrusive way to get it done. You could also use these leads to power the 12v socket on the dash if you really were set on that.

Of course, I have no idea what you're trying to run with this and what the possible consequences would be of doing it. Again, there may be other alternatives or more things to consider based on your application. Sharing that would help.

If there are reasons this wouldn't work, or hardwiring in general wouldn't work, let us know!

I have a Garmin dash cam, that goes into surveillance mode when parked. It draws VERY little power, and I use the 12v port for it. Just looking for the simplest, cheapest way to make that constant power. This relay seems like it's a simple plug in. That's why I asked if anyone has previous experience with it.

A relay that is constant isn’t really a relay anymore - it’s just a jumper. So just put a jumper wire in that relay slot.

I used a jumper wire in the relay slot of my 06 Honda For the 12v outlet to power it full time. No issues. All you need is a short length of wire and 2 spade connectors that fit.

Makes sense. When using it for dash cams like this, you need something that will turn off the power when it drops to a certain voltage so you don't completely drain the battery. Does your dash cam have that built in? If not, you will need to get something like that put in line or you will find yourself stranded. You'd be surprised how much that little power it draws can drain the battery over time.

Many of these devices are designed to be wired directly in rather than through the 12 volt socket, which is why I was asking the questions I was. You may find that in the end, you won't even be using that 12 volt socket anymore.

I drive my truck every day. The amount of power it draws over night will never be an issue. If for any reason it would set for an extended period, I'd simply unplug them

I use an obd2 port power supply for my dash cam. It has a switch on it, making it possible to have the camera hot all of the time or only when the ignition is on.
