Hey all, I just installed the trailer brake and am looking for ideas to relocate the factory 12v socket the trailer brake replaced. The only three I’ve seen pictures of on a search have been:
1. Just next to the emergency brake - too close to the brake for my use.
2. Just behind the screw on the right front of the center console (passengers side) - I have the saddle bags there and it would also be problematic depending on passenger seat position
3. Rear center console - my jeep already has the inverter outlet there.

I had originally thought I could install on the right side of the center dash but it doesn’t appear the 2 1/2” depth required is available whether because of the electronics or the metal bracket that holds those electronics in place. The perfect OEM look of the right side next to the climate controls (opposite the start button next to the tune knob) has a metal screw about 1.25” in the there. My goal would be somewhere on the passenger side if possible.

Any of you have some genius installs that work pretty well out there maybe with some pics?

Sorry, my genius install was a Curt Brake Controller so I didn't have the problem you ended up with. There just isn't enough space to relocate the 12v outlet and have it be in a good, easily accessible spot.

That is one impressive install, thank you! From the pics it appears you also trimmed the internal plastic bits that the climate control clip back into, is this correct? Any issues with the climate control rattling or being loose after this install? That was actually my second choice location just thought it would T work because of where those clips attach to the plastic.

I didn't need to trim a single thing inside the dash setup. Just drilled the hole and routed the wires. The climate control all snaps in just like factory, so no rattles at all. You got this!

I relocated mine to the top of the dash using one of these 12v receptacles from Amazon:

That 12v relocation took me all of 10 minutes with the right tools (cardboard, compass, drill, file) all thanks to members like you…keep the upgrades going. Next on my plate: Front Trail Cam.

I am out to perform the 12v relocation as well… can you share the size of hole saw? I’m measuring that a 1-1/16” will be needed???

how much room for error would you say that you have in terms of the hole location… knowing my luck I’ll be a quarter inch off and the whole thing will be toast.

good job! Very clean!!! Tempted to also buy a splitter and put one on the top of the dash, like a Ram truck has.

thanks!

Yes, 1”-1/16. Make a cardboard cutout of the exact shape and put a small hole through the center of the cardboard cutout. Then tape the cutout where you want it on the dash. Take a small drill bit first and drill a pilot hole in the dash. If you screw it up then it’s not a big deal with only a pilot hole. If your happy with it then use the drill bit like below to get it to 1”-1/16. Then file the tab out and your done.
