Where did that iconic Jeep Grill come from?

“Ford designed the now famous stamped grill during World War II. This is the same grill design that you see on Jeep Wranglers today. The original grill was composed of 9 slots. Willy’s-Overland Motor would later change their Jeeps to a 7 slot grill, which is what the Jeep brand has stuck with since. The move was made because Ford Motor Company had copyrighted the 9 slot grill.

And the name “Jeep”, where did that come from?

“The exact reason Jeep got the name Jeep is unknown. However, it is believed that it could be from Ford’s use of the abbreviation GP on the Ford GP and Ford GPW, with the “G” meaning “Government” and the “P” designating the vehicle as having a wheelbase of 80 inches. Other popular theories include an idea that it is based on the cartoon character, “Eugene the Jeep.” Wherever the name came from, it saw widespread use during World War II, to describe the legendary line of vehicles.”

I am sure most of us on here know a little Jeep history. If you want to instil even more pride in your drive, do a little research on the Jeep. For me the meaning of “it’s a Jeep thing you wouldn’t understand “ IS the history of the Jeep origin. The fact that the JEEP saved lives and helped the USA win WWII gives us great pride in that name.

For a vehicle to not need a name on the front because it is so identifiable by its face, is unprecedented. Yes Ford made that front end and Willy’s modified it eventually, but the Jeep is not a Ford. The Bronco though loved and revered will NEVER have the pride and love that the JEEP owns... FOREVER!
Why does Ford and it's slappies always want to take credit for EVERYTHING? You know what they can take credit for? Their shit quality. On top of that, their interiors are garbage. Idiots buying F150s like they are the greatest thing since slices bread and it looks like Fisher zorice designed their cabin. Ford is the Apple of the car world. No matter how big a pile of junk they build, Ford fans will try and convince everyone how great there junk is

Oh sounds like you ate some sour grapes. You think Chrysler products are better than Ford ?? 😂 Facts are facts and Without ford at the beginning of Jeep’s inception, Jeep probably wouldn’t be what Jeep is today.

The only competitor for the wrangler and the JT will be the Ford Bronco and the. Bronco truck.

I will however stay with my JT.

Sour grapez? I owned enough Fords through my life to give up on them. Every brand has its problems but by far the biggest pik s of junk I owned were Fords. It's comical you clowns come in here bashing the product the forum is for and then cry that someone points out the major short comings from some other product you are rah-rah,'ing. Ford builds junk. Facts are facts.

Read where a supposed ford insider commented that the bronco hard top vendor is having QC issues with tops leaking and staying on. The bronco top is very similar to the Jeep freedom tops but is engineered structurally different than the JT. I would think Jeep must have learned a great deal over the years with freedom tops and why they are engineered in the style they use.

This massive delay on the Bronco being blamed on covid is also a joke. There is something majorly wrong and are using covid as an excuse.

I wondered if the Bronco tops could have leak issues not having any structural supports along the panel joints. I assume they intend for the panels to support themselves internally and is probably why the roof panels are thicker than Jeeps freedom panels. The couple of times my 2012 JKU roof leaked when I first owned it, it was at the middle joint between the driver and passenger and only leaked because I reinstalled them incorrectly. Once I new how to make sure the gasket and panel edge where properly aligned, I haven't had a leak since.

I have a day 2 Bronco Black Diamond reservation. I’ve been trying to decide between the Diesel Gladiator, GM 1500 diesel, and 2021 F150 with 3.5 and Bronco with 2.7. I’ve settled on getting a diesel JT (Rubicon, Texas Trail, or Freedom) and if I don’t like it I’ll sell it and do the Bronco when it gets in later next year.

Go GM or Chrysler. Save yourself the head ache.

Could smell a Chebby lover in your comments.

Who cares, I’m not bashing Jeep I’ve had a bunch. I’ve also had a lot of Fords and all were excellent. I’ve had two Chebbies, one caught on fire at 2 years old because of faulty wiring (chased electrical gremlins since it was new). The other a 2012 diesel truck had an injection pump failure and the engine was toast... Chebby will NEVER AGAIN see any money from me. The government should have let them fail back in 2008. Once again Chebby is bringing back the irrelevant Hummer... electric no less. They couldn’t get a small car, the Volt, to be reliable. The new hummer will once again be an epic failure.

Old Chebbies I like, the old trucks the Chevelle and 60’s and 70’s Camaro.

Everyone has there favorites, all good. The history of the Jeep you can not deny was influenced by Ford.

Lmao. I'm not a chevy lover, but nice try. I just know both Chrysler and fired (and almost anyone else) is far higher quality than ford. You could go to a ford forum and get your rocks off.

The latest generation GM seats really suck IMO. They are hard as park benches. So I moved on from GM. Looking forward to the JT diesel. Fully expecting some issues but I really have enjoyed the diesel test drives on the JT. Feels so powerful and cruises going 75 on the highway with ease.

I had all kinds of chevys, fords, Chrysler’s ....

Ive had examples of bad stuff and good stuff... (Bad: rear brakes on Dodge Grand Caravan, Ford escort rubber pully isolator, Chevy hhr water leak - Good 260k miles on an s10, f150 straight 6, Saturn vue)

they are all man made, the key is trying to find one not made on Monday, or Friday afternoon, or hump day, and weekends.
Then; a model with no known issues, not in the first model year or first month of refresh.... repeat for all major components and air bags...then you’ve got a shot at it.

COVID is blowing up supply chains left and right and FCA is also struggling to get parts (e.g. new steering boxes). I'm not surprised at all that Ford would be having similar issues.
