Hi guys,

Took the 2022 Gldiator into some deep muddy water (about 800mm deep).

No problems until after I washed it, a little bit on the way home, and got into it more with my gernie the next day.

After second wash at home, as soon as I started up the car, the check engine light came on and the vehicle wouldn't drive in reverse.

I turned it off, started up again and it drove.

I plugged in my odb reader and the error code says the gear selector solenoid is malfunctioning.

I reset the error codes and basically it intermittently throws this error each time I start the car when cold...but not necessarily when it's warm.

Sometimes the jeep will reset the error itself after a few starts and the check engine light goes away.

So my main concern is the whining noise coming from the transmission...its not a noise I've heard before and the car has 34,000km on it and I purchased it new.

I am going to use a bit of logical deduction thinking. Since you did not have problems until after you washed it, I am going to assume water got pushed into some electrical connections.

As to your gear selector solenoid codes, I would look at the connector going into the transmission and take it off, blow it out both sides and a spray of electrical contact cleaner for good measure and reassemble. Attached is picture of the connector on the transmission, it is a counter clockwise off style.

I have also attached the transmission wiring diagram for reference. The Transmission Control Module is what is inside the actual transmission and what the electrical connector I previously mention hooks up to. The Electric Shift Module shown is your physical gear selector in the the cab.

As to the whining sound that only appeared after you washed it, a common complaint is that the alternator on the front top of the engine is susceptible to displaying that whining if a large amount of water gets into it. That is why it is located where it is to avoid water intrusion when fording . If you douched it good with a pressure sprayer, the bearings may have had their lubricate pushed out and is running dry. That unfortunately is usually a new alternator replacement and running it long term like that will eventually leave you stranded.

Hopefully you get it figure out.

Thanks,
I will take a look at the solenoid fix you suggested.
When i run the engine, I opened the bonnet... the whining noise doesnt appear to come from on top of engine, so i got underneath the car and had one of my kids rev the engine.

It sounds like the noise is coming from down the back underneath near the transmission. I cannot tell if its in the bell housing or the transmission itself however in its that general area.

To give a better description of the noise...remember years ago in old cars you used to get that kind of whining noise through the am/fm radio from the engine inteference? It sounds a bit like that noise (however its definately not my radio ^_^)

I know that the engine has a tendency to make a kind of turbo noise when reving...its always done that, i dont know if that is the type of air intake that causes it, however, this new noise is different and drowns out that normal jeep type turbo sound the car has made since new.

The car makes the whining noise both on the road in any gear and, when stationary reving the engine in neutral.

Hi guys,
Update...

1. I reseated the pcm board connectors (gpec2) sprayjng them with wd40 and that seems to have stopped the recurring check engine error

2. Jeep called me after having the car for a few days to inform that the transmission is cactus and is to be replaced under warranty
