Hey all - just got a 2023 Willys the other week and today it started throwing a P0456. I haven’t needed to get gas yet, but I tightened the cap a few clicks just in case. 3 or 4 starts later and it’s still there.

I read about a service bulletin for older Gladiators but seems like that probably wouldn’t be an issue for a 2023.

anybody have anything else obvious to try before I have to take my brand new vehicle back to the dealer?

thanks!

edit - I don’t really know too much about this sort of thing. Is it safe to drive in the meantime? Should I clear it and see if it comes back?

You could check the EVAP Purge Valve under the hood on the passenger side of the intake manifold to make sure everything is hooked up and full seat.

I will admit, not an expert on Emissions stuff. Beyond checking connections and if the code does not clear, may need dealer service and a smoke machine put on it to see where it is leaking. I have heard that sometime even new gas caps will still leak.

If it has warranty don't try to mess around with it just take it in to the dealership

it is safe to drive with it

According to the service manual, it takes 3 "good" trips (drive cycles) to turn off the CEL and only one bad one to set the CEL. You could clear it manually and see if it comes back, too.

The obvious things to check have been mentioned, frankly, I'd try those, then let the dealer mess with it, especially if the code persists.
If you clear codes, then decide to take it in - there's little for them to see.
So if it was me, I'd not clear it, see if it clears itself, and if not, contact the dealer after trying the obvious stuff.

I find it interesting that some folks get a code if they don't have the cap just perfect, and a couple of years ago I stupidly forgot to cap mine back up (I filled cans in the back, went in to pay, got in the truck and drove away, cap off)
I went about 3 miles and realized what I had done after I had a nagging feeling that I had forgotten something - the truck sure never told me about it.

The truck figured you'd been married long enough you weren't going to listen to it......
