Sound bar speaker upgrade!

The 2024s are different from previous years.

This is what I used.

Once the speakers were removed, I installed the 4" coaxial speaker using a Metra plug and play adapter.

I needed to remove one mounting tab, and shorten another one to allow the speaker to fit. None of the holes lined up so I used 3 self-tapping screws.

The adapter looked like it had a polarity issue to me. After testing and checking, the polarity is correct.

The little dome tweeter was a bit more difficult. The tweeter came with a variety of mounting brackets. I used the one pictured below, modifying into a simple flush mount. Then I used a hole saw to make a hole in the mounting adapter, supplied by Crutchfield, to mount the flush mount bracket to. I used glue to secure it.

Then it was just a matter of wiring up the Metra adapter and stuffing all the wiring and crossover behind the mounting adapter.

Coupled with the new speakers in the dash, it sounds great!

Did you use the crossovers that came with the tweeters or directly plug into factory wiring? Also, why the tweeters and not another set of 3.5’s? I just ordered a smililar setup to yours based on your post. So, thank you!

I really didn't want a 3.5 (two-way speaker) running off of a crossover (high pass filter). I used the factory crossover. You really don't have a choice, the crossover is wired in someplace. Likely at the amp. The tweeter I used plugged into the factory wiring sounds very good considering how awful it was before.

Thanks. I ordered tweeters as well. Do you know if the non-alpine system has the crossover inline too? I'm guessing that it does.

The very first mod. Locking hood latches! Why are they still using such an antiquated design? I can sleep better tonight.

These are all well and good until you loose the dam barrel keys

Excellent build thread. When you added the USB power to the top of the dash, do you remember if the power harness you used was the factory power for the trailer brake option or was this a different harness? Im always looking for more optional power and have moved the 12v and installed the OEM trailer brake and am curious if there is yet another harness back there unused that I didn’t see.

Thank you!

I used this harness:

It connects behind the 12 volt outlet (cigarette lighter) and uses that factory harness for power.

I knew when I bought my Gladiator that I would never take the freedom panels off. There is no good place to store them, and living in Florida, rain just happens out of the blue. So, I found a fix...

After some prep work, I mounted some EZ Freedom Top Hinges with VHB tape.

I love it! So easy to open / close, and now I can actually use the freedom panels! It take seconds to close them.

Interested in your opinion on that mod! How’s the hwy noise open and more importantly closed? Why did you decide this instead of a sunrider (not second guessing you just curious)? When open do they bang in the top when open over large bumps or are there bumpers? It looks phenomenal.

I would not leave these open at freeway speeds. I have noticed no additional wind noise when closed. When open, they lock down with a spring-loaded clamp, and have small bumpers. No issues over bumps at city / beach driving speeds. I like the security of the hard top when closed. My current project is a comm and switch paned using the overhead molle panel in the picture. A soft top would just be inviting trouble, in my opinion.
