Hey guys, I have a 38x12.50r17 Nitto Ridge Grappler (Load C) spare tire that i'm trying to fit.

I moved my exhaust as far forward as I could to gain some clearance there as it was touching the tire.

I've removed the heat shield though I might try to bend / cut / fanangle something back in there. I heard the exhaust doesn't get hot enough this far back to melt the rubber, thoughts?

The tire doesn't fit between the frame rails and is sitting up against them though....maybe since it's a 12.5" tire not a 13.5" tire this is acceptable?

The tire has millimeters of space between it and the Clayton bent rear track bar...is this good enough? Technically the track bar should only move up and down.

Thoughts? Should I run this? I want a spare with me and I don't want to waste space in my bed.

That is understandable, I also have the Clayton bent track bar... I barely fit a 37" Patagonia MT as my spare between the frame rails and I had to go to 8 PSI to shove it up there. Maybe going to 8 PSI or less will help ? and then flattening it out with a ratchet strap to wedge it in there ? but, I doubt you will get it between the frame rails. The other possibility is try to put one of the worn ones up there after 25K miles or so when they wear down some. .. After my current 37" Yokohama MTs wear out, I am going the same 38" route -- and I think I will keep my new Patagoina 37" spare, and if I have to use it, I will try to level everything out with air pressure, ie. 35 PSI in the 37" and 20 PSI in the 38".

Look at the Rock Krawler rear track bar elimination kit. I have it on my rig and plenty of space, i am still looking for a 38in spare as we speak but haven't found a cheap one.

Yep, got the triangulated 4 link in my back pocket as a worst case scenario

Note: he is trying to wedge the spare between the Frame rails -- like the stock setup... Nothing can be done to help that except for squeezing the tire down some how to wedge it in there. Otherwise, the spare tire will protrude below the hitch and possibly drag....

I think i'm okay with having it on the frame rails rather than between, it doesnt look like it sits "that" much deeper between them. It's also only a 12.5" wide tire not a 13.5"

Drop the air pressure.

Spit on it and let it rub the frame rails lmao. I would be more worried about the track bar.

hmm, I hope that works for ya. I do have a question tho, I went to 38's as well, 5.13 gearing. But mostly I wanted the 13.5 width. Just curious why you opted not to go to 13.5? Also, I just run a 37" spare for emergencies and extremely limited use. I figure after 4.5 years of owning a JT and going on the most extreme trails, I've never had a flat. I do carry a tire repair kit and a power tank. I also keep my spare at about 5 lbs of pressure so it fits, hence the power tank to inflate it when needed. All this will change as I'm considering a 4' bed cuz that departure angle is kill'n me, even with more than 6" of lift in the rear.

It would no longer be under the bed but have you thought about a vertical mount?

I’ve got a tri fold alloy bed cover currently. Need that for traveling to keep clothes and stuff dry.

Note: With my 17x8.5 zero offset rims (like my Method bread grip), I believe the 13.5 inch width tires may rub the front lower control arm at full lock.... In fact, even with the bent Clayton arms, I have seen some rubber on my control arms from low PSI (12) running with 37x12.5x17 tires...

Just an update here guys, when I did my first tire rotation I was able to fit a 5k mile worn 38’ Nitto ridge grappler between the frame rails as a spare. New it wouldn’t fit, 5k worn it fits fine.

So if you want these tires just keep the spare in the bed until your first rotation.
