I have read a bunch of posts about 8.4" radio upgrades. The part number for the Gladiator version is supposed to be 68417861AH. But when I do search for that part number I come up with other part numbers that say they replaced it, like 68417861AK says it replaced
  • 68417861AB
  • 68417861AD
  • 68417861AE
  • 68417861AF
  • 68417861AG
  • 68417861AH
  • 68417861AL
  • 68417861AM
Are these radios interchangeable or do those last 2 letters mean something?

In theory they should be interchangeable. Generally the higher suffix lettering is going to incorporate the latest changes. Those changes may or may not be to correct past issues but also may include just different manufacturing process improvements or other suppliers producing the part. Dealership is not going to know what those changes are.

Thank you. I noticed with Mopar parts this seems to be common. I am new to Jeep and trying to get use to their ways...

Chrysler has used that type of suffix revision format for quite awhile. Unless there is a TSB or service data stating otherwise, it is assumed that so long as the base part number remains the same, any suffix lettering revision is suppose to be "fit, form & function" compatible. Good practice to seek out the latest suffix revision part one can get.

Generally, if there is a totally redesigned part to fix a major issue, the base part number will roll to something completely different and the parts catalog will change to list it. An example would be the early 2020 Gladiator aluminum steering gear box when they rolled to a steel steering gear box changed the base part number.

You can throw these into the mix too while you're at it.

These numbers are completely different. Any idea what the difference in the radios are?

Those are 2021 and up part numbers. The OP has to be careful as he has a 2020 model. 2020 models were different in how they processed the rear camera signal. Putting a non compatible one in may give a blue screen for the camera input.

So the part numbers I listed in the first post are only for 2020?

Yup!

There is few threads here from early on where 2020 JT owners were putting in radios pulled form JL Wranglers and getting blue screens for the rear view camera. IIRC, the digital signal for the rear view camera was processed different. Supposedly for very late 2020 and definitely starting with 2021 and up, that was no longer the case.

So you need to make sure your getting the correct VIN specific radio for your 2020 JT.

Thank you. I read some posts about the JL radios being different and backup cam not working when trying to put them in a JT. I didn't realize that the 2021 JT were also different.
Any good online tools that I can put my vin number in to find out what radio I need?
Thank you for all your help!

I just picked a 68417861AK new in box for $600, so I will give it a shot.
Now I have to figure out the corresponding HVAC contols to buy for my truck with the options I have. I saw a list of part number in a post on here with the different options per part number, I jist have to find it again...

I assume you have the base sport single zone AC?

When they made 7.0 radios standard in 2022, they installed a redesigned single zone HVAC controller set that incorporated the radio controls on it. I would seek that out vs. putting in a dual zone HVAC where only the driver side temp controls work.

I was thinking the single zone with steering wheel controls. I also do not have heated seats. But they list a bunch of different part numbers with no pictures, so it is hard to figure out what one is needed.
