OP here. Transmission replaced, under warranty. Internal issue in trans. Here's the invoice with everything I know. It shows the codes and a simple, if not brief explanation, which is significantly more information that any personnel at the dealer were able to give me. Zero communication by my "service advisor", or anybody else at the dealer. Did not return any of my calls or messages. No updates, no status, no diagnosis, no "sir, we're changing the transmission in your vehicle, here's how long it will take, here's why we're replacing it, etc...." Just one call to me telling me to come get the truck, 2 hours before they closed. Truck at dealer for 3 weeks. Super happy with the dealership experience here. NOT.

Congratulations on the new transmission!!

It takes longer than 4 miles to get the transmission up to temperature to open the thermal valve to the cooler to cycle the whole system. It’s a real thing and I’d be taking it back to have them check the level again or check it yourself if you’re able. It’s a very simple procedure. “Level from factory” doesn’t mean it was done properly but that’s for another forum debate but again, it’s also a real thing and I personally experienced low levels from factory.

If the tech ONLY performed the level check at temps stickered on the side by the fill hole 86 to 122F then it wasn’t checked when the thermal valve had opened. If that’s true, the volume of oil in the transmission will drop significantly and you’ll be back in the same position of burning the oil again and slipping gears.

As already suggested here, if the cooler wasn’t flushed the valve would have kept the system to the cooler shut off. Cooler would be full of the debris and burnt oil now circulating through the brand new transmission. Go in and sit down with the tech and service manager and find out exactly what the process was.

Whatever they tell you can be verified by an oil analysis (which is very simple to do). In the off chance your malfunction was “glycol from the factory” as I have, it’ll have that in the unflushed cooler which is now in the tranny and the oil analysis would detect that.

Great advice here. Same concerns by me regarding the "Fluid level OK from factory". I questioned the service advisor about it, asked if fluid level was actually checked after vehicle driven and temp was at correct range when checked. Was told that the tech had left for the day, that he would be asked, and that service advisor would call me with this answer. He also stated "I am confident that it was done correctly". That was 2 weeks ago. No call. Of course, per usual, and unsurprisingly my calls go straight to the general voice mail of service department, and calls and/or messages not returned. Needless to say, I have ZERO confidence in the dealer performing the procedure correctly, further evidenced by my needing to properly install the air intake tube that goes from air box to the throttle body once I popped the hood at home. It was smooshed up against the outside of the throttle body, only covering about half of the the throttle body, with the hose clamp still dangling loosely around the neck, so most of the air coming into the intake was unfiltered. Easy fix, but telling. I will be doing the level check myself. I have found a couple videos of the procedure, like this one:

Anybody with first hand experience performing the level check, that can list the proper steps? Or know of a good online resource for performing the procedure? Any help or advice is appreciated.
Thanks,

Steve

I have done it many times. This is the video that I would also recommend. PM me and we can talk about it. Great time to also pull out a sample and get that off to Blackstone Labs.

Transmission has been solid since the complete replacement under warranty nearly a year ago, and about 5,000 miles later. No further problems or issues fortunately. Still unsure if I will keep the Gladiator once the warranty expires in March 2023, as this vehicle has been very problematic and unreliable since I bought it brand new in March 2020. Sorry about your trans Joet13. Hope it's still under warranty and that you have a local dealer that actually knows what customer service is. Good luck.

2020 Gladiator Max tow, 8 speed auto. 13,000 miles on the odometer.

Transmission started slipping majorly when it is shifting from 3rd gear to 4th gear (like it goes into neutral for a moment, then bangs into 4th with a surge)

No reverse intermittently.

Check engine light came on.

Took to dealership right away. Was told that vehicle will not even be looked at until January 3rd, (16 days from now) because I don't have an appointment.

Service advisor asked if I wanted to drive the truck back home and make an appointment and bring it back then. Hhhmmm....probably not a good idea to keep driving the vehicle in its current state, as it will likely cause further damage, leave me stranded once again, and void my warranty. So I declined bringing it back, and left it at dealer. Like I really had a choice?

I asked for a loaner vehicle or rental, because I am now without a vehicle for at least 3 weeks, was told that warranty does not cover loaner vehicle, and that it has not even been determined if this is a warranty issue, which is laughable.

Here's the worst part. I have had this truck towed to the dealership twice already. For issues not related to the current problem. The previous issue ended up being the PCM, which left me stranded twice. I thought I was done with issues with this truck. The reason I bought a brand new, nearly $50,000 vehicle is for piece of mind and reliability. You are supposed to be able to take these vehicles out to the middle of nowhere and back. Soooo disappointing!!!! Am I the only one that thinks that if there is a warranty related issue that I should be provided a vehicle while mine is being repaired? I'm still making payments on the vehicle, I'm still paying to insure the vehicle, I still need a vehicle to get to work every day. And it should be a comparable vehicle, I need a truck. That's why I bought one. Now I will have to rent a vehicle on my own dime? For several weeks? That could cost me thousands. This is unacceptable!! FCA needs to do the right thing here. What can you do to help me @JeepCares And I don't mean just opening a case file, giving me a "case number" and then taking no action, which is what happened the last time my brand new truck got towed into the dealership(twice). I mean take some action, and get me a comparable loaner vehicle while your company works on your companies faulty vehicle that I continue to pay for!

This is my 4th Jeep vehicle. I have been a loyal Jeep owner for the past 20 years. I'm hoping to stay being that loyal customer, but I'm considering changing that. Hey @JeepCares My Jeep Gladiator is at Jack Powell Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Escondido, California. If they can't provide me a vehicle, then get me one from another local dealership or rental car business, ASAP. I would love to be able to post on this site about Jeep taking care of me, the consumer. Please help me do that @JeepCares

My JT is a 2021 with the Auto 8 speed Transmission, 3.6L, 28,000 miles.

It has the same issue as yours. Slips going into 4 gear. I have had it several times where it wouldn't go into 4 and would have to stop, turn off the JT, let it set for a few seconds, restart and it would then go into 4th. I would have the check engine light come on as well. I have been back and forth with 2 different dealerships. The first time they said the the code had cleared and they tried to get Jeep to replace the transmission but Jeep said it would have to get worse before they would. Long story short, went to another dealership and finally got the code they needed.

The first repair and only so far, was a valve body. I drove it home and it shifted fine, but the next morning with a cold engine and transmission, it kicked 3 times before it went into 4. No check engine lights came on. I call the dealership and told them but now we are waiting on check engine lights to come on again. A lot of wasted time and gas with this. Warranty isn't what it is made out to be.

It's the dealerships in most cases but Jeep also has specific processes that must be followed if a dealer wants to be reimbursed by Jeep.

With these transmissions, if they choose, they can actually watch the application of each clutch and band, they can watch how quickly pressure builds in a given area, they can watch the maximum pressures, there's almost no end to what they can see.
Every time a shift is called for, there are things that need to happen in a given sequence and withing certain parameters - with the right knowledge, and time, they can watch for such things.

There are times that things go wrong and setting the MIL is not called for - and yet there may be codes within. If you have something like JSCAN or certain other software, with a bit of time you may be able to either "catch it in the act" or find codes or issues that didn't call for the MIL to be set.

This is the sort of thing that can be monitored while you drive. Granted, this is the transfer case, but the info is there, just need to find and grab it.

I’ve had the same issues as mentioned on this thread. I’ve had it at the dealership twice for weird shifting. Initially I would have a weird jump in the transmission when accelerating from a complete stop (once the truck was warmed up). Both visits to the dealership resulted with me having to fork out $156+ twice for diagnostic fees because the dealership couldn’t replicate the issue.

Over the last few months the transmission has been doing the odd jam from 3rd to 4th gear after driving the car from a cold start. I’ve also had a delay in shifting from Park to Reverse where there is a few second delay then it jams into reverse.

Last Sunday night I was driving home from work and I went to hit the gas after going through a round about and the RPM’s revved up, check engine light activated and the truck wouldn’t shift out of 3rd gear. I pulled over, put it in park and shut it down for a few minutes. Restarted and the light was still illuminated but it shifted somewhat normal. As soon as I got home, I called to have it towed back to my local dealership.

I got a call the next day from my service advisor who told me that the 3rd gear clutch pack had burned up, the fluid was burnt, there were metal deposits in the fluid & the error code indicated transmission failure. He said they would have to replace the entire transmission and it would take 1-2 days to get the approval from Mopar. He also told me that there was not a transmission on the shelf at the warehouse in Orlando. I was in a state of panic because I just accepted a promotion with my company and I’m set to hit the road on 11/28 to relocate from FL to AZ and start work on 12/4…..

It took 4 days for them to get all of the approvals from Mopar before they were able to order the replacement transmission. I had filed a claim with @JeepCares so they could try and expedite the shipment. I was told last week by the dealer that they were pretty confident that the transmission would arrive by 11/22…. Ive tried to call @JeepCares the last two days for a status update and apparently their call centers are having phone issues so I can’t get through to my case manager. I called the dealership to see if they had any updates and it’s now showing the transmission won’t arrive until 11/30 (but they keep saying the delivery date could change)

At this point, I’m freaking out because I have to leave by 11/28 and it appears the repair will not be done in time. I asked my case manager last week if they would ship the truck out to me once the repair is complete and she said she would have to get with the dealership. She said she would call me within 2 business days….. Still no call…. Its looking like I’m going to have to fork out at least $2k for a moving truck to get me, my dogs and belongings out to AZ. @JeepCares needs to make this right! I’ve been a loyal Jeep/Ram owner for many years & I’m extremely disappointed with this whole situation.

Hopefully this does not come off too cynical, but there is never a good time for things to break. Plenty of people have been in the middle of vacations and other life events and had to deal with like issues of inconvenience.

The dealerships process would be the same whether you broke locally or remotely. Pushing them too fast runs the risk of either actually slowing them down or having rushed shoddy work being done.

I would not count on them shipping it to you either. Sucks about your situation but you may need to find a way to work around it the best you can.

Be aware, not to spook u but there have been some waits in the range of 2 to 4 weeks.... And due to the costs and liability of shipping that's beyond long shot. I've hauled cars and had them shipped. Can't see that happening here.

Basically took about a week to get all of the parties on the same page, and agreeing, to release a transmission in our current case. It took 2 or 3 days to get STAR to respond.
I've been told that "JeepCares/customer service" is behind because of short staff and being busy this time of year. I've still not heard back from JeepCares in a week - a week ago yesterday I was promised a call by last Wednesday......... still waiting. But it doesn't make a ton of difference because the transmission I need is on national backorder, or as the service manager said something like planetary backorder - maybe it was galactic backorder - can't recall but his point - there's nuttin moving.
The strike hurt us, and we're still not back to pre-covid levels of staffing and supplies moving to where they are needed. It's not just Jeep - it's still the world in many ways. So there's that.
Our Wrangler went in on the 7th, came back, and went in again on the 8th. Just yesterday found that STAR and the regional tech rep agreed - needs a transmission.
So that's 2 weeks tomorrow it went in, and about a week to get approval.
When will it arrive? Who knows.

I know one thing - no matter how bad I think things are here, for us, there's someone else out there in a bigger bind practically and financially. If I push - I may knock someone else out of line who has been waiting longer and is more honestly, truthfully, in greater need and more desperate for one. There's always someone in more dire straights.
I'm in line, at least there's that. I bet there's someone out there who has no other transportation at all and is in trouble trying to get around or rides or loaners or whatever.
Maybe it's all because my gummie just kicked in......

Glad to hear you have a new trans. Coming…….finally. My brother just picked up a new GC 4xe. I’m debating whether or not I should mention the leak prone trans. . On the 4xe model or just let it ride.

Why does it sound like its been abused ? Just because its used AND has a trans issue ?

It could just as easily just have an odd trans issue ...

I don't buy that ... It could have been abused ... Or not ... He has not said anything to make it suspect ...

It could just as easily simply have a defect or a bad part ...
My 2023 Jeep Gladiator Willys was just towed into the shop 2 days ago for Transmission Failure- Fully Locked Up- Only 2,600 Miles (Brand New - under 2 months old). My Gladiator was only 3 seconds away from locking up on a RR Track- so would have been totaled by a train (twice!). Lucky it locked up on the side of the Tracks and not “on” the Tracks- Potentially Dangerous- And when the Transmission locks cannot be pushed in “N” unless you know how to pull the Emergency Release- Everyone should be shown where this release is located - for safety- Transmissions are faulty from the Factory- There was no off road driving or abuse. After reading all of these posts, Jeep Gladiator Transmissions are faulty from the Factory - I hope the replacement will be lasting - Per the Service Advisor: the New Electric Hybrids also have transmission issues- repair took 6 months waiting on parts - Jeep needs to address the Faulty Transmission production now- Unacceptable and potential for danger or loss of life- This needs to be addressed ASAP at the Factory.

Welcome to the forum. Too bad this is your first post and not something that’s great news for all…
Do you recall hearing any high pitched whining in any of the gears?
