Congratulations on the new transmission!!OP here. Transmission replaced, under warranty. Internal issue in trans. Here's the invoice with everything I know. It shows the codes and a simple, if not brief explanation, which is significantly more information that any personnel at the dealer were able to give me. Zero communication by my "service advisor", or anybody else at the dealer. Did not return any of my calls or messages. No updates, no status, no diagnosis, no "sir, we're changing the transmission in your vehicle, here's how long it will take, here's why we're replacing it, etc...." Just one call to me telling me to come get the truck, 2 hours before they closed. Truck at dealer for 3 weeks. Super happy with the dealership experience here. NOT.![]()
It takes longer than 4 miles to get the transmission up to temperature to open the thermal valve to the cooler to cycle the whole system. It’s a real thing and I’d be taking it back to have them check the level again or check it yourself if you’re able. It’s a very simple procedure. “Level from factory” doesn’t mean it was done properly but that’s for another forum debate but again, it’s also a real thing and I personally experienced low levels from factory.
If the tech ONLY performed the level check at temps stickered on the side by the fill hole 86 to 122F then it wasn’t checked when the thermal valve had opened. If that’s true, the volume of oil in the transmission will drop significantly and you’ll be back in the same position of burning the oil again and slipping gears.
As already suggested here, if the cooler wasn’t flushed the valve would have kept the system to the cooler shut off. Cooler would be full of the debris and burnt oil now circulating through the brand new transmission. Go in and sit down with the tech and service manager and find out exactly what the process was.
Whatever they tell you can be verified by an oil analysis (which is very simple to do). In the off chance your malfunction was “glycol from the factory” as I have, it’ll have that in the unflushed cooler which is now in the tranny and the oil analysis would detect that.
