Just got back from Trailer World of Colorado with my new Star Camper Mini Shell — paid $13k out the door.

It’s a composite fiberglass camper shell with foam insulation and aluminum framing. The interior/exterior are fully finished fiberglass. It’s a blank shell but came equipped with:

  • 4 insulated windows (all with integrated bug screens and shades)
  • Removable HappiJac jacks
  • Interior LED lighting (8 total)
  • Locking door with integrated screen
Interior width is wider than the Scout Tuktut, and the cabover sleeping area fits an RV queen (60x76"). Still planning out the interior build but this shell gives me a lightweight, rugged base to work from.

Dry weight without jacks 705 lbs

Happy to answer questions if anyone’s considering something similar. There is not a lot on the Internet about this product. I have listed below a couple of links that have more information.

https://starrvproducts.com/shells/
https://www.truckcampermagazine.com/news/introducing-star-rv-products/

  • Dry weight w/o jacks: 705 lbs
  • Floor length: 70.5 inches
  • Body width: 6’6″
  • Floor width: 40.5″
  • Overall length: 132″
  • Interior height: 73″
  • Cabover to ceiling: 31″
  • Cabover bed area: 60 x 76w
  • Floor to underside cabover: 42″
  • Screen door size: 24 x 70
  • Body height: 72.25″
  • Floor to sidewall: 20.5″
  • Lower windows (2): 35w x 21
  • Cabover windows (2): 27w x 15
  • Interior LED lights: 8
  • Rear LED patio light on switch: 1
Hurt his widdle feelers and he realized he couldn't make a commission sale here.....
Exactly. Way too informative for his first post. It was a poorly disguised advertisement and when it went south, Camper Carl bailed.

Like anybody is going to buy a bare bones Gladiator with manual windows and then drop $13K into a camper. It was clearly their test mule JT.

I feel sorry for those who have gone out of their way to make a new member not feel welcomed.
Im not sure if the whole forum is like this, or if I just encountered several people who provided no helpful input, and only like to be jerks online. I wanted to share my purchase with other people who might be interested and was met with outright hostility.
In comparison to Scout and Total Composites campers the star mini is an excellent value!
Validation is not something I need, nor are insults. I have better things to do with my life than defend myself on a forum that should be built around helping others. If you are an admin on this site, please delete my account.

It is a discussion forum and you did not seem to get hurt until some did not see the same value in it as you did and rather just shrug it off and accept not everybody is going to be a rah, rah cheerleading section, you took your ball and went home.

As to deleting your account, do what most do and just quiet quit and never come back. Done that myself a time or two elsewhere and nobody is going to remember this in a month.

Go to the welcome thread. Introduce yourself and start a build thread that we can follow along. You're in the Overlanding section. Your first post here set the tone for the type of replies you got. This is a fun bunch of guys when you get to know them. A thread like this will bring out the humor. Even tho some of it is twisted. Stick around.

You should visit the "O" thread.

The whole first page of posts was really fine. People discussing the PAYLOAD issues, some liking it, others commenting on lack of AC for the money and such - looked to me that at least page 1 was just fine and pretty normal, good discussion.

For me, I was reacting to the fact that the OP deleted all of his posts and part of his profile. That seemed very fishy to me.

If the OP is legitimately a Gladiator owner with a new camper, I'll admit my mistake and apologize for being an online douchebag.

Just went back to first post page one and looked at every one of them.
I still fail to see a real problem.
Some were honest about the huge size on a tiny truck, and the ability to properly carry such a thing (passing a semi on a 2 lane highway can be a bitch without a tall sail on the JT) but I don't really see it turning nasty. Some just didn't like it and pointed out options - that happens all the time.
Others mentioned you really have to have a stripped down base model with max tow to handle it - few could handle it otherwise - and that's just fact. These aren't made for such large loads - even the towing section of the owners manual points out you need to take frontage into consideration.
No AC was mentioned - yeah, that's a show-stopper here. Been down that road before and if I'm going that route, there are other options.
But nasty? No, not really. Honest back and forth, some pointing out the good, others pointing out the cons of such a rig.

Did I miss something, skip over the nasty posts?

Constructive criticism is not insults. You posted a thread about your great new camper build and then got upset when others found it not so great. But having a hissy fit and wiping the thread as you have done is considered immature and extremely rude behavior in the online community, as it destroys the continuity of the discussion.

He should delete the camper. It was the ugliest one Ive seen produced for a Gladiator.
Since he's gone and no longer cares - I guess I'll render a public opinion on it -
It seemed made for a full-size truck like a Silverado or an F150 at least.
Proportions were all wrong for a JT, and the drag has to be phenomenal!
People forget - frontage counts. It's one reason Jeep has more rounded corners and shorter hoodlines and other changes from 50 yeas ago. Flat sides have a horrible drag coefficient.
Tall is like a sail in the 65 + mph air you are pushing into.
I would never ever want to drive past a semi going the other direction on a 2 lane highway. A JT gets whipped around badly enough as it is, but the very very tall flat sides - you will get pushed around.
(I recall Myth Busters doing a bit about standing by a train speeding by you - things got blown away big-time.)
