I am considering adding just Rubi take off Fox shocks to my max tow.

I called fox and they it will be fine they are just a higher quality shock. He should it shouldn’t change anything else, not height or towing capacity.

Just to be clear I am doing JUST shocks no other components.

Has anyone done this yet? I’d love to hear your input!

What problem you looking to solve going to Rubicon shocks?

No problem at all. Just looking to mod to improve the ride and actual look of the shocks. At the price you can get them as take offs (40 bucks a shock) it’s a fairly simple easy and cheap mod.

I will also probably eventually get the fox steering stabilizer and it’ll all match! My steering I would say is pretty good, the stabilizer might make it more “tight” on the highway and stable over bumps and dips.

I feel the max tow ride can be harsh at times and fox is saying this could improve it.

Shocks dampen the spring action - prevent the bouncing and spring oscillation.
Zero impact on payload, towing, etc. - they can impact aspects besides just the ride but we won't get into that since all you care about is ride and no impact on towing and payload.
A steering stabilizer is basically a shock on its side (made to operate that way so don't turn a shock over LOL) it dampens quick movements, helps prevent shimmy to some extent. It won't prevent slow movements like wander and such, but can help with bump steer and that sort of thing. There are good ones, there are cheap ones. You know the drill there.

Just did a complete Rubicon take-off swap on my Overland. Shocks, springs and links. Gained an inch + on both ends, no change in ride and have room for 35’s!

There ya go - that's what I was looking into doing.
So you did springs and shocks and it's like I expected, when I measured a dozen JTs on dealer lots, Rubicons, compared to Overland I found about an inch difference.
I'm looking to take some of the rake out, though, too.
You confirmed my thinking- that's what I want, a Rubicon take-off set.
Thanks for the info and pic.

thanks - great info
hey so just so we are on the same page, I’m NOT looking to do a rubicon swap, JUST the shocks. There’s lots of posts Already on the forum about the full swap, and being that I have a max tow, I don’t want to change the springs etc. Some have been unsatisfied with a full swap on a max tow, since it has beefier springs... I will be leaving the beefier springs.

Has anyone just updated JUST the shocks on a max tow?

The max tow springs aren't "beefier", but they are progressive springs. If the actual part number means anything, the Rubicon has the toughest springs but they are also the longer springs and not progressive like the max tow.

Anyway, there's no reason you can't swap the shocks but to know the impact, you'll have to find someone who used Rubicon shocks in a Sport S with max tow since anything else wouldn't tell the whole story.

yea maybe “beefier” wasn’t the best choice of words, but that’s how it was described to me when talking w Fox, they are made to handle the higher towing.

And your exactly right, I’m looking to find someone who has done it to see if they have any recommendations...

So I swapped out the stock max tow shocks for the rubicon take offs last nights, drive it a little and the back road and it would say the ride is a little less harsh and smoother. The swap took about an hour.

I’m curious to see what it will be like when I take it into town this weekend and hit the really crappy roads with pot holes and take it on the interstate at 75+ mph.

I also plan to put on the front fox steering stabilizer this weekend as well. More so to match, because my steering is pretty good, not loose.

Following with interest as first-hand "I dun it and this is the result" info is good.
