Alarm sounds when using key?

Can somebody explain why the car alarm sounds when using the physical key to unlock the door? It usually gives you a few quieter honks as soon as you open the door and then goes into full blown panic mode. Is there something I’m suppose to do to prevent that from happening before I pull the door open? I know my Silverado has the exact same thing happen whenever you try using the actual key.

The fob works fine, I’m just asking a general question on why does the alarm go off if you use the key provided to you as a back up.

The key is a backup meant to be used in a situation where the FOB isn't working, like with a dead battery. The unlock button also turns off the alarm. There is no connection between the key cylinder and the alarm system, so using the key to open the door sets off the alarm.
