The alarm also monitors if the hood is open. It just defaults to not responding to it. That is a setting that can be changed with Jscan, AlfaOBD, a Tazer, or a trip to the dealer.
So, it is possible with Tazer, etc. to configure the alarm to trigger when the hood is opened?

Yes, it is a setting in the BCM (Body Control Module). JScan is probably the easiest to use to change it.

@NachoRuby I completely forgot to reply back, sorry about that. It looks like others confirmed the hood alarm works on their JScan app as well. For those curious, it's under the "VTA - Vehicle Theft Alarm Settings" option under the "Adaptions" menu in the JScan app. After you open the VTA option it's called "VTA Hood Ajar Monitoring". Simply change it from Deactivated to Active.

It basically utilizes the ESS switch under the hood to trigger the alarm. So if you've disabled this switch to deactivate the ESS feature this setting won't work for you. IIRC this setting didn't work right away and took a couple key cycles before it worked it on my Jeep.

Recently my there was a theft attempt on my 2021 Rubicon. They opened the hood (That is not protected by alarm), pulled the fuse for the horn and then broke in and started reprogramming the computer to add new key fobs to steal it. For what ever reason they failed and were unable to steal it. My dealer had to reprogram my computer to get it working again. I was thinking about connecting a wireless relay to the jeep that would activate an alarm in my house if the factory alarm goes off. Does anyone know where I could pick up status of the factory alarm such as a wire that goes to 12v once in Alarm mode?
As much as I love my MO, these things are shamefully unsecure...Really no excuse for it. Only Hubris on the part of the manufacturer because they have a captive audience (they are kinda addictive :))...I keep mine in the Garage every night luckily and only use her for a pleasure craft (for now) so i have peace of mind in this regard.

Anyone know if the dealers will do the taser deal on being asked as such?

Never mind I see Nacho answered this previously, well, next oil change I'll ask them.

Don't mention a tazer to the dealership. They will probably have some sales code they can apply to change the settings, but some dealers aren't too fond of the tazer. For the dealership to do it, they have to phone home to FCA/Stellantis, and do it that way.

Alternatively, download the jscan app, pay for a license. And do it yourself.

If you don't already have a bypass cable, you'll need to get one, along with a Bluetooth obdii dongle. The license has gone up. But I think I paid $25. It used to be 19.99.

As for security, we've debated this a few times, but remember, half of us park with doors off or a top off anyway a good percentage of a time. And a soft top can just be taken off from the outside anyway, if you have that option. So a traditional hood lock would be useless (the kind that pops open from the cab). These guys picked his locks, so a physical lock won't stop these pro thieves. Also, I keep having to say: Chargers and Challengers have all the traditional security measures in the world, but they still get stolen left and right. One just got stolen here two nights ago. And it didn't end up well.

So to me, the real Mopar security issue is how easy it is to clone the keys. That needs to be fixed.

As always, nothing but respect, just friendly banter here. I think the hood alarm is definitely worth having though. I agree with you there. That way it should make a sound even after they pick a hood lock or door lock.

:)

Thanks for the additional tips Nacho, yep agree always a respectable and enjoyable debate with you Sir...

I'm going to try the easy approach first but if the dealer will not do it this will be a great resource.

Is there any option to connect additional sensors? I always loved the battery disconnect switch. Cheapest way to prevent people from driving away in your car :).

The app absolutely sucks. It often takes ten minutes to find the location. I have set off the alarm it does not alert me.
looking at my app I can’t tell which way is on and off. To the right or left?

I wouldn't rely on that. On the other Ontario thread the guy had that too. The thieves turned it off, and it was untraceable.

I don’t, but now the hood switch is active at least it may notify me when they lift the hood. The app sucks I can’t even get it to work

in NY days I had an alarm that also went off on its key chain fob. I could even program the alarm to silent outside and keychain only. Thats what I would do besides a dash cam with park mode.

Problem is, look how much they charge when the free trial is over! The only one that provides "Theft Alarm" and "Stolen Vehicle Tracking" is $26/mnth.

Ford Pass (my wife has it) is 100% free. I think for the price we pay for these, XM Guardian should be as well...
