That's not true I'm running 37 12.5 17's on my stock steelies. Specs sheets say 17 7.5 are fine for anything up to 12.6 wide, anything more than that then you need a wider wheel. Like you couldn't mount a 37 13.5 17 on them. I got good contact points with mine and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't rub without my wheel spacers. I didn't with the 315 70 17 i had previously and they were slightly wider tires, like 12.6 wide according the sheet.
Can you post that up here.

There are two dozen threads discussing how 7.5" wheels aren't wide enough for 12.5s. I haven't seen any primary documentation.

If I had an off road toy, I'd probably have steel wheels on it.

But for a daily driver in the northeast, they simply rust and look shabby within a couple of years.

Here’s another dude with some “off-street” cred…Ronny Dahl:

Well after watching that I'm pretty much 100% sold on steel wheels now. Some of the pot holes alone on some of the streets around here could crack a alloy wheel based on that test. I'm as surprised as he was about how easy the alloy cracked. Good video to share @CMac appreciate that.

I had the sheet from DISCOUNT TIRE downloaded but I couldn't find it to post a few weeks ago. I'm going to try to see what file I have it saved in and will post it when 8 locate it.

Here it is, i actually had posted it in a wheel spacer thread. This is the spec sheet for Discount Tire and I was told by NTB and Mavis and also sears that they follow the same guidelines for mounting tires.

Those look very similar to my stock ones. I like them a lot, I'm just am wanting maybe something with a deeper dish look. But still a huge fan of those.

Regarding the 12.5”/315mm tire width on 7.5” wheels. There are no manufacturers of a tire that size that list a 7.5” wide rim as a suitable width. The discount tire/ntb whatever saying they will fit means nothing as they do not make the tires.
Not saying they will not work and be fine just clarifying from the people who make the tires it is not wide enough.

True but they, Discount and others, have to follow NTS guidelines for what's safe for the roads and that's who sets those specs. The manufacturer specs on tire width to wheel width is mainly for getting the most life out of a tire. Honestly i can say for sure that running 17x7.5 wheels on my JKU with 37 12.5 17 KO2s and then running them with 17x9 wheels on another set didn't make a difference as far as how long they lasted. I got basically the same wear as I did both times using a 5,000 mile, 4 wheel rotation. Only thing I had to do was run them with a little more psi with the 17.75 wheels, maybe 4 to 5 pounds more.

Mine are on their 3rd winter now, don’t take any extra care of them and I’m in northern Ontario Canada

I stand corrected.
