Thanks for this review, it actually makes me pause a bot, as it sounds like the the brakes are over sized for the Master cylinder.
Had a similar thought, but Teraflex claims the Gladiator one is supposed to be able to handle it. I know there is the Mopar J8 booster, but it's not clear if that's actually an upgrade on the Gladiator or even the JL, only the JK.

I have Teraflex Delta brakes on my JL and they work super with 37s . The pedal is solid and it stops on a dime
They use Toyota tundra pads so brake pads will never be an issue
Also they have anti knock back springs behind each piston and that's what give you the solid pedal
Anti knock back springs are used a lot in racing brakes to counteract the flex in the rotors and bearings
Joe at the 4X4 shop in Livermore Ca. told me that they are there go to brake system for the JK and JLs
Not sure if they make some for a Gladiator

According to teraflex the JL kit is the same kit for the JT. I’m going to get them most likely.

Has anybody actually called and spoke with in detail my old coworker Blaine Johnson (mrblaine on the forums)?

Blaine is the design engineer and owner of Black Magic Brakes - THE Big Brake Kit originator - not imitator.

When I worked for Blaine, I use to machine/build/assemble/package/ship all the Big Brake Kits for all models of Jeeps.

If I needed a big brake kit for my JT, Blaine would be the first person I talked to.

Thanks. I’d never heard of them. I don’t want to spend Baer money, and thought teraflex looked like a very nice package for half the price of Baer. I’ll look into black magic. Thanks.

I had Baer on the rear of my 2020 Willys and when I stalled the teraflex on the Willys I put the Baers on my 2018 Rubicon
The Baers work ok with the Z36 front pads put the Baers squeak like a bitch
I don't recommend the Baer but I highly recommend the Teraflex delta brakes

Thanks. Very helpful review for someone ready for bigger brakes. 37’s and a heavy-ish overland setup needs them.

Would a big break kit not help with stoping power when adding much larger tires like 37's and up? Would it not help when adding a lot of extra weight like overloading gear and such?

I have thought about big break kits but it is way down on my list.
Had the TF BBK, it was nice, definitely an improvement over stock with 37s on a JK, I'd imagine it'd have the same effect on a Gladiator overloaded with gear and parts!

Can't be worse than stock lol (not that I've had any braking issues.)

2 pistons stock in front and one in the rear. Teraflex makes it 4 front and rear. That’s got to be a massive improvement.

Let me put it to you this way
After installing the Teraflex Delta brakes the pedal was so firm and right at the top of travel I had to make sure that the brake lights were coming on before it started braking
You may have to adjust you brake light switch because the brake lights may not come on when you have light pressure on the brakes (like sitting at a stop light)

I will throw another, less common brand in the USA out there, Powerbrake out of South Africa. They have been in the brake business for a long time supplying components to OE supercar companies and are a top brake brand in the Dakar race.

I have been running their system now for about a year and a half and love them. Not the cheapest, but defiantly one of my better upgrades on the diesel Gladiator.

They look nice, but I might be worried about parts availability. Is that just a kit for the fronts for $2,600? The teraflex kit is for all four at a similar price point.

They have a great dealer network here in the USA (the main rep from SA lives in the USA). As for the pads, in an emergency, they provide a common pad part number that you can find at many local auto parts stores until you can buy the replacement pads from them.

I've watched my rears, and looking at the rotor and pad wear after 42k, I doubt a rear upgrade is even needed. And my JT is super heavy.

Good points. Mine’s heavy as well, and while I know that most braking power is from the front, I still don’t like single piston calipers in the rear. I’m still deciding on the right course, but so far it’s tough to pass up quad piston calipers on all four corners for $2,500ish. I haven’t figured out whether to be concerned about teraflex being too cheap, or the other two being way overpriced.
