I still think they would sell better with a v8 or twin turbo v6. Inline 6? Looking to gain on torque? I think I would keep what I have over an inline 6. Wasn't thrilled with the TJ. It is not that I think the 3.6l is any better, but I don't see it worth the time and energy to trade up. On the other hand if a v8 was to come out from the factory, I'd go for it. Tell me your thoughts on the inline 6.
The Hurricane is a turbo-charged I6 (not a naturally aspirated I6). It makes crazy levels of torque, even in its standard output version (which is likely what would go in the Gladiator - if it ever makes it into the Gladiator). The standard output version makes more torque than the 5.7 liter V8 Hemi, and more torque than the truck-version of the 6.4 Hemi.

Here is an excerpt from an announcement about the engine:

"In standard form, the new 3.0 twin-turbo engine delivers “more than” 400 horsepower (294 kilowatts) and 450 pound-feet (610 Newton-meters) of torque. This version is optimized for the best fuel economy and uses cooled exhaust gas circulation. The High Output variant, in turn, is good for “more than” 500 hp (368 kW) and 575 lb-ft (780 Nm) with the promise of delivering “significant” fuel economy during heavy loads, such as towing."

What could fail, pushing an in line 6 to 500hp and making it last just past a 3 year 36k warranty? I hope for the best!

After watching some Ecoboost teardown videos, I think I'll let someone else be the guinea pig for doing maintenance/repair outside of warranty.

Any scoop on the inline 6 coming to the gladiator? I think they should give it to the gladiator before the Wrangler because the JL got the 392 and the JT didn't. On the JL forum there is talk that someone in the know said their was some frame updates coming and its believed to be for the new inline 6. Anyone on here in the know?
Probably more likely the turbocharged 4 banger as a PHEV given the direction the European jeeps are going.

Oh for sure. The high output version is ridiculous. I was just pointing out that the standard version (which is still too high strung) makes more torque than the existing V8 options from Stellantis - at least the truck versions of the V8s. Of course, the 6.4 in the Wrangler (referred to as the "392" to distinguish it from the 6.4 in the Ram 2500) is tuned up to 470 hp and 470 lb. ft. of torque.

I read that the high output Hurricane is coming with forged internals, but it seems that the standard output should also come with forged internals.

I'd take the 5.7 Hemi in the Gladiator over the Hurricane in a heartbeat, but it is now obvious that the 5.7 will never be an option. We will see how this Hurricane holds up, but if the standard version doesn't blow-up, IMHO, it would be a better option than the 3.6 (a little under-powered at elevation) or the 3.0 diesel (worries about over-heating, and emissions). I probably just pissed off every Gladiator owner with that last line ?

Not a fan of the 3.0 nor the 3.6 but those are the choices. It's not what we want but what the .GOV wants. I would have to really think about upgrading to the Hurricane it it ever happens. I think the cost would be as much as a V8 transplant option. If you want to push those, you can even beat the Hurricane output.

These are Jeeps however. The 3.6l will do fine.
