I’d take a detuned version w 25% higher cooling capacity, some skinny knobly tyres and a cloth interior. Pls Jeep.

why the hell can’t a Jeep be a working man’s truck anymore? Isn’t that a “lifestyle” anyway?

Pioneer Edition pls w some throw back 80’s working class decals like the OG Pioneer J-Trucks had.

You can't even think of comparing the older Jeep engine bay "depth" with modern.
Laughable comparison.

apples and oranges. Totally different engine bays

But DUH - the 258 was put in Jeeps of all sorts for years.
It was a wide, long engine bay in 1960, though.

Is this the first time anyone has realized that the old Jeeps had V8s or I6s?

Gotcha, sorry.

I am curious, in reality, what is the bore spacing on the hurricane I6?

Seemingly an imperceptible joke. Aka a play on words. I thought a good one to. But then maybe that’s my simple mind…

Actually the gladiator has a lot more in common in terms of platform heritage/concept with the hurricane equiped willys truck than it’s actual namesake - the gladiator.

…and platform aside; it’s namesake only ever suffered a Tornado. Never mind a Hurricane. (Sorry couldnt help a supportive play on words ;))

clearly I enjoy a one..

Yes, I recall the older Jeeps with the V8's. While in college in the mid-late 70's, my best friend and I bought our first new Jeeps: I bought a J-10 pickup with the 360 2 barrel and 3 speed stick on the floor. He bought a CJ7 with the 304 V8, soft top and Quadra-Trac auto transmiision. Both were about the same price, about 5,000 at the time.

I know the J-10 was larger than the Gladiator but never realized the engine bays on both the J-10 and CJ7 were that much larger back then. Even my '99 TJ Wrangler has a straight 4.0 six and there seems to be plenty of room to spare under the hood.

I still don't understand why a straight six hurricane engine would not fit in a JT?????

It may, but it's not as large in the engine bay as the earlier Jeeps.
The 258 and 4.0 are not short engines, but seeing all types and years of Jeeps together in September reminded me of the engine bay differences.
And today, we have to add converters and massive electronics and modules to the mix.
Then add in the space taken by a SC or turbo vs. a NA straight 6...........

Has anyone measured hood length on the JT, JL or JK vs. earlier models? I think the JL and JK hoods aren't that much different in length.

It probably won't help anyone to know this, but yes, a Hurricane 3.0 WILL physically fit in the length of the JT engine compartment. The Hurricane 3.0 is less than 1 inch longer than a 392 Hemi, which fits well enough into the JL engine compartment. Of course there would be major engineering and certification obstacles to overcome, and I very much doubt that Stellantis is willing to make the effort. The 3.0 Hurricane was designed to fit in pretty much any place that a Hemi fits, just as the 2.0 GDI turbo four cylinder engine is designed to use all the space available. The same space that will hold a Hemi. That's modern engineering for you.
