Time for tires before winter, and not finding many reviews on Yokohama Geolandar A/T XD. Has anyone used them?

The candidates are down to those Yokos and MT Baja Boss.

Need to stay stock size (285/70) since there is a chance that snow chains will be needed.

Outside of pavement and rain, there will be:
  • mud, sunk 5" in earlier this year, over the rim edge
  • snow, 1-2' is not unexpected, and the roads home are at 9 degrees
  • delightful shale shards on some of the FS roads until they get groomed next spring

I run a set of 235/85R16 Yoko A/T HD's on my 88 Ford F250. I mainly use this truck during hunting season, where I never know what kind of road conditions I will encounter, and also for landfill runs, and getting firewood. I have had them for 2 years , but pretty low miles. I can't speak on their longevity, but they are literally the best all purpose "mountain" tire I have ever owned. The only reason I didn't put them on my Gladiator is because they didn't have a size that I wanted to run. I opted for 255/85R17 Baja Boss A/Ts. I just put them on 1000 miles ago and they have only seen pavement. I won't have any comments on their performance for until about December, but they look like they will perform well for my needs.

I carry tire chains 100% of the time, so I know about needing the extra room to clear them. I run tall/skinny tires as much as I can. I personally believe that the size of the tire effects the traction just as much or more than the actual tread, especially during winter and on snowy FS Roads.

In short, I don't think you'll regret the Yokohama's.
