I was hauling a large air compressor in my bed a while back. I didn't think it would move around but I came to a stop and it slid from the back to the front of the bed and the huge handle smashed into my back window. It put a big scratch in it but somehow did not break. I still can't believe it did not crack.

Called the second shop and was quoted just under $1k. He said it would be the first rear glass they replaced, but have replaced a few windshields already which wasn't surprising. Checked with my insurance and it is $100 with the comprehensive deductible so I'm gonna go that route.

Hopefully you'll get the improved version of the glass and the better seal. You won't have to be part of the "leaking rear window" club

Oh yeah I hope not! Never leaked in over a year of ownership before. I thought the leak had to do with a quality issue from the factory with the sealant so hopefully a non-issue. I'm also supposed to get a written lifetime warranty on the replacement, so that should cover me too

Just saw this on a Gladiator FB group. Apparently he had canoes in his bed hanging out over the edge of the tailgate and he backed into his garage door.

Is there a non-sliding rear window version available? If I had to replace my rear window I would go this route to same money since the manual sliding rear window is useless to me.

From what I heard from two shops, no, they're all sliders. There isn't really anything in the aftermarket either at this point. I'm always using the slider though, gets rid of any buffering in the cab with the Sunrider flipped back

I'll go one further on that idea, I think I'd pay extra for a removeable full rear window.

Well I was overly optimistic that the glass was going to be replaced on Friday. Here is an update on the replacent experience for anyone who has to go through it.

Apparently when insurance (or at least my insurance) approves a glass claim, it is for an aftermarket option. If a shop is going to use the OEM part, then they need to request it. So I got the ball rolling on this Monday, but the approval didn't come back til late Wednesday and the rear window was ordered Thursday. The shop told me they'd have it most likely Tuesday.

I had duct taped what remains of the he rear window and drove a few times with it this week, but really didn't want to test that anymore. So yesterday I took advantage of the fact that I have the only convertible truck on the market, and took the hardtop off. To do so, I also took off the Sunrider for the first time since October which was really easy. I left it assembled, just took out the six bolts, and my wife and I lifted it into the garage. You really just need a shelve big enough to store it, and I anticipate it'll pop right back on without an issue.

And now I'm running mostly naked until the fix, then maybe some more after, because it continues to be amazing weather around here.

I have a suggestion for anyone looking for a rear window alternative. I didn't break my glass nor was it leaking. But I replaced it anyway because I wanted more open window. So, I replaced it with a Breezer windows removable rear window. I like it, it doesn't leak, and it's removable. Had it on since November. It's not a suggestion only if you plan on paying for a window. If it's under warrantly, then get stock.

Because I just did:

In what was otherwise a fun and eventful day with the Jeep truck, I ended up cracking the rear glass loading a grill into the bed at Lowe's. I was hurrying and haste makes waste as they say. ? A few questions for anyone with some experience or guidance.

Am I best off calling insurance, or may I be able to do it out of pocket for a reasonable price with Safelite or a company like that?
Any reason to go to a dealership?
I have children in the backseat. Can I pick my son up for a 10 minute ride, or am I risking that any bump in the road and my kids can be showered in glass?
This happened to my truck yesterday. Something got between the rear seat head rest and the window. We went over a pretty signicant bump. There was a loud crack sound and both of Army veterans in the truck were pretty sure we were taking fire.
"See any bullet holes?"
"Where's the shooter!!"

Pretty exciting moment .
