I tried - but some dealers didn't want to look, they preferred to order, and even today, when seeing if it was worth trading up to a Rubicon, can't get anyone to even bother looking to see if there's one in the USA. It seems to be a dealer reluctance or something. I guess they make more money selling off the lot or ordering? So in addition to buying a JT off the lot or custom ordering one, another way would be for the dealer to locate one spec'd like you want and dealer trade for it.
Haven't heard of that happening thus far . . .
You are lucky you aren't here -they don't want to be bothered with that. They'll order you one - in fact this is the first vehicle I looked into where the dealer didn't even TRY to sell one off the lot, instantly said they'd order one. No, no use looking around, we'll order you one. I pushed on one dealer and he had his "manager" go back and look - the guy came back and said he looked and there was nothing. BS but that's how they are. They don't care.Yep exactly what I did. I wanted a Sport S in sting grey with cold weather and tow package (not max tow). Dealer tried 5 times to sell me a black one and I finally said this is what I want and not buying unless I get what I want. They found one about 3 hours away. I put $500 deposit on it which they used as my first payment and such on the lease. Did the deal over the phone on a Friday and picked it up Saturday afternoon. I have done this in the past as well. Super easy for dealers and buyers to find exactly what you want now a days on line. I’m way to inpatient to wait for an ordered vehicle.
I would find another dealer. They work for us however they have forgotten this over the years. Cars.com is a great place to find what you want already sitting on a lot. Sounds like you got a shitty dealer who doesn’t want to work for your business. You are lucky you aren't here -they don't want to be bothered with that. Ordered Oct 17, received Nov 12th.I know others have had a hard time getting delivery on custom orders, but I only had to wait 4.5 weeks for mine (Oct 7 to Nov 9). I simply could not find exactly what I wanted...anywhere. Finding it for a dealer swap just wasn't going to happen, for sure complicated by me wanting a 6 speed. My point is...4.5 weeks ain't bad! Based on my experience, and given what we pay for these rigs....if you can't find an easy swap, then just wait out an order.

Probably because you didn't finance it. I'm guessing that dealers make a lot of money on cars on the lot and folks who come in to shop what's available and finance it at the dealer. You are lucky you aren't here -they don't want to be bothered with that. That could be - but other dealers sell for under invoice or at least knock a couple grand off MSRP financed or not.Probably because you didn't finance it. I'm guessing that dealers make a lot of money on cars on the lot and folks who come in to shop what's available and finance it at the dealer.
Except a couple of dealers I'm aware of. They will go to another office for a couple of minutes so you can't see what they are doing, then come back and say nope, nothing out there. You discover later they were wrong.Dealer trading is pretty common among dealerships. Often dealerships are competing for customer sales so they're willing to go find the perfect car with the exact options the customer wants. Trading Gladiators is pretty easy right now as well most dealers have a pretty large inventory of them.
All CDJR dealers have access to VOIM Inventory/Locate Vehicles Search
You put dealer zip code and Range (up to 3000 miles) from how far you want to look then just select the options you want. EZ

All sales consultants should have access to this search if given permission by their managers. Similar process for GM and for Ford. The trades are usually done between managers because the sales persons do not typically have the authority to authorize the transfers on their own. But all sales people should be able to do the legwork of locating the vehicles initially. I know it helps me a lot when a sales person has already narrowed the search to a couple dealerships to contact vs having to do everything myself.Except a couple of dealers I'm aware of. When I bought my Silverado Karl Chevrolet didn't pull that stunt. The sales guy had another fellow come in to his office where I was and they both searched while I WATCHED their search, then went clean out of the midwest and tried to find one "anywhere". Come to find out my truck options were a rare combination - they let me watch, the dealers I've used for Jeep vehicles mysteriously disappear and come back and always say no, there's nothing out there.
Apparently not all dealers are aware of this search for Jeeps, either - I stopped by Granger and talked to them when I was researching trading my Overland for the next up - the guy was using the consumer search stuff - the build your jeep online, and search tools any newbie here knows about. Heck, I already KNEW all that stuff. They weren't even familiar with all the options and I had to explain the differences. Was disappointed to say the least. Left with no more info than I went with.
So - dealer CAN do this, COULD do this, but will they? Naw - they lack training or in the cases of a couple around here- don't care as they'll make their quota even without you.
Should, supposed to, if - sounds great but reality around here is that they either don't have access or won't use it. The last ones I talked to acted like they only knew how to use cars.com to find anything and only knew about the options via the "build your Jeep" option on jeep.comAll sales consultants should have access to this search if given permission by their managers.
