Ho-hum.....it's a ford

Ford guy here. After 35 years driving Ford P/U's, I finally found something that visually inspired me with the Gladiator, much like the 1999 Super Duty did when it was first launched. I no longer need a full sized truck, with full sized 8-10mpg max fuel thirst, but I can still get solid axles, a manual transmission, and even a decent payload capacity, and a convertible to boot, plus almost infinite customization. Even a truck based Bronco won't sway me back. Only thing would be an all electric F-Series, which will probably be my next major purchase in about 5-10 years, but versatility, styling, and configurability will be major factors.Let's talk about this in 2023, when there may or may not be a Bronco pickup unveiled.
Ford makes great trucks. And they have really compelling powertrains. I hope the Bronco and all its variants are awesome.Ford guy here. This could be a GOOD thing for CONSUMERS . . . usually competition wakes folks up, and should "force" JEEP to take measures, real or imagined !? However as pointed out, 4+ YEARS is a very long time and THAT gives JEEP a huge Heads Up Advantage ! Who knows what the (by then) Mid Cycle Gladiator would/could become ? Perhaps even a JT sibling ? Or even a Waggoneer-Truck (the Luxury Version of off road trucks !? Only wish, in hind sight, is that Ford would of done this 5 years ago, despite NOT being a "fan" of any other brand ! The JL and JT could possibly of become "that much" better, sooner, instead of us wanting some of the things we feel are missing on the 2020MY JT ! ? Who knows the Sport S 2025 may offer a super duper Front Trail-Cam Standard, ha, who am I kidding .? I don't think I'll be a "Player" then though, but the "next Generation Jeeper" could burst the Orgasamatron over expectations !?If it does get made it will just get the ball rolling and Jeep will hopefully be trying to add better stuff to the gladiator
From what I've read, the Bronco is slated to have solid axles front and rear, as well as an available 7 speed manual transmission. No manual transmission, no want.
No solid front axle, not likely to want.
That’s not entirely accurate. Ford did NOT take bailout loans because they had mortgaged all of their property before the economic recession...but they DID accept $Millions in federal grants to make their factories more “environmentally friendly”. FCA paid back their bailout loans, and did so YEARS early...not to mention they seem to have done far more than the others to keep jobs here in the US.I will always have respect for Ford cuz they didn't need the TARP bailout money and didn't lose billions of tax payers dollars to the amount of > $10b from GM and Chrysler, instead they took a loan and are paying it back so much respect to them and they do make great trucks. My only issue with American truck manufacturers is that the interior is so cheap and not really upgraded to my luxury preference... I wish that changes in the future.
I think just like the Gladiator/Jeep, there is a cult following for the Bronco and it will do well. I am not touching any electrics for at least 10 more years unless of course VW releases their bus with more than a range of 300 miles.
Just fwiw, GM paid back all it's loans too, years early as well. That’s not entirely accurate. Absolutely not true - the federal Govt invested our taxpayer money and lost $10.2 billion of our monies because they sold the shares at a loss. But, Ford just took the grants as a loan and no investment from the Govt, they weren't partly owned by the state like socialism for GM/FCA but Ford is still paying it back but no loss.Just fwiw, GM paid back all it's loans too, years early as well.
