Just curious. How do you suppose they would start the truck. The fob is needed so im not sure they could have stolen it. Am I wrong? Perhaps I have a false sense of security.

There are ways to defeat modern security systems but they typically require specific tools. Let's just say the security module on FCA vehicles' OBDII port wasn't a proactive measure... most vehicles can be hacked through the OBDII port to start them or do other things- it's just a matter of someone finding a currently unknown vulnerability.

As for the horn, this is a common attack vector since most vehicles use the horn as part of the alarm... No horn to honk, no sounds when you break in. Same reason we used to install the alarm siren high on the firewall so that leads couldn't be cut. Unfortunately the best place for the horn is out in front so it's super easy to do on most vehicles with the smallest amount of research ahead of time.

@midironman has a great plan there though... anything you can do to hide wiring will make it more difficult to do this.
