If the PO went this way, it would not work when I hit the button to turn it off?
The button would still function with either of these devices. The only thing they do is remember where you had it before you shut the vehicle off.

Does it affect any of the other systems if the start / stop battery is out of juice causing the indicator (A with the round circle and exclamation point) stay on? I am thinking of just leaving it that way.

It depends on what state the Aux battery failed in. If it is just dead, and not being a drain on the Main battery, you can leave it that way. Mine sat that way for six months before I got around to replacing it. It is best to just replace it. If you always press the button to turn ESS off, you might look at some of the Aux delete threads.

It is a warning sign. Your Main Battery is probably on the way out. How old are the batteries?

Thanks, I just replaced my main battery so that is not an issue.

I turned that thing off every morning so I’m thinking of just not replacing the battery. I can save myself that step every time I start the truck.

If you leave it as-is, with the dead Aux battery, it will turn off the ESS for you due to the error condition. If you don't mind the error light, you should be able to drive it that way indefinitely. Just watch it and make sure it's not draining the Main Battery.

That doesn't necessarily mean the aux battery is dead - it means there's a problem with the system.
It may be a bad aux battery, but there are other reasons to see that error light as well.
You won't know until or unless you check that battery.
If it's dead and you lose N3 fuse, you'll be dead in the water.

Otherwise, what Mr._Bill said.

Maybe you aren't pressing hard enough on the brake pedal. Maybe the batteries aren't charged enough. Check the start/stop info on the center screen for more info.

Thanks for the reply, I live in rural Australia pretty much anywhere I go is an hours drive. The selling dealer was in Sydney some 4 hours from me, I have 3500 miles at this point so I don't think it would be a low battery charge. When I was out this morning I did some hard brake pressing still no shut down? I feel most people would be fine without this function however I want things right. I will have the dealer check it at my first service. Thanks

What does the ESS page tell you? You can try and disconnect the IBS connector for 20 minutes or so, and plug it back in. Really you should charge both batteries. Then again, if the ESS page is giving you a hint at why it isn't working, you can try correcting that situation according to the message.

A reset ESS should be put on fully charged batteries..........it tracks milliamps/amps out and in and best done with a full charge.
The Jeep documentation says to place a new IBS on fully charged batteries - I'd assume that should be the same for a used one that is reset back to "zero".

My gut tells me his batteries aren't fully charged.

1 hour typically won't do it - but 4 hours should (depending on circumstances)

Sorry, I just HAD to do this.............

For all we know he could be driving with his steering wheel off center. Until he looks at the ESS page, all we can do is guess.

It's really too bad that doesn't give much information beyond cabin heating/cooling, battery charging, that sort of thing. I wish it would show at least a few of the other issues that can cause this.
Until he looks at that - which is free and easy and requires no tools, it is indeed all guessing.
