I did the same thing this evening. I had the”Start/Stop” service icon come on and from reading on this forum, decided to fully remove the Aux battery, tape up both Aux battery cables, stuff both back in the Aux box, put in Autozone Platinum H7, pulled the 42 fuse, started the JTW, and everything came up perfectly! And no more error icon for the ESS! I did charge the new battery prior to install with Noco Genius 10. I did this procedure via the PDC removal to access the Aux battery compartment.I fully removed my Aux battery, pulled the F42 fuse, disconnected everything including the negative cable up to the main battery terminal. Working just fine for over a month now.
I didn't want to leave the Aux battery connected to anything so its out of the vehicle entirely.
