Yup, bikes here as well and I drive a Miata.
There is a Miata wave thing too, but its a bit less common anymore (ND's rarely wave to prev gens) and there are FAR less on the roads.

I am serious about saying "don't wave" to myself.

Yep, all the time when I'm in my wife's Grand Cherokee, wife reminds me I'm losing it But I wave when I flat towed my Jeep behind our motorhome too.
