Battery Tender hookup

I'm doing the same, I use it on my new Gladiator and my wife's Wrangler. Makes it easy to keep them both in good condition as our communes are both under 2 miles to work.

The ways described in this thread will certainly get the trickle charge to both batteries. For convenience, I have added an SAE 12v plug in the grill to connect my Battery Tender. I also have the tow plug connection, so I can hook up from from or rear. (I also have a 20A solar charger for those times when I am 'offline' for a while.)

Regarding where to connect to the battery, I understand that the connection should be on the ground-side of the IBS (intelligent battery sensor), not battery-side. Otherwise, the charging will adversely impact the battery health readings. Has anyone heard otherwise?

No, not on the CLAMPS - not for the negative.

For the negative, connect in the green circle - NOT at the clamp stud crossed out in red.

I'm 100% certain that he will will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he's just saying: Don't ground on the battery. Much like they say not to use a jumper cable on the battery's negative post. Will it work? Yes. Is it best practice? No.

Electronically, there is no difference between connecting to a dedicated stud on the clamp and using the clamping bolt. If there's no device between them, continuity is continuity. Mechanically on the other hand, one is definitely better than the other.

Where is it said to use the post crossed out in red? Maybe you have a typo and really mean how come you can not use the post that's crossed out?

You should not as it bypasses the IBS and it's called "blind charging".
Only use the top of the IBS - the studs within the green circle.

No, very different reasons.
If you use the battery post - or the clamp I have crossed out, you BYPASS the IBS.
The IBS tracks all power coming out AND going IN.
So if you by pass the IBS, its' called blind charging, and you throw it off.
Same for pulling a load - pull from the top of the IBS or the BODY ground, not the battery post. Otherwise it can't track what's pulled out of the battery.

Not at all like connecting a jumper cable - that's a safety issue and you don't want to connect to the battery post itself as the last connection as a spark there can ignite any hydrogen vented by the battery.

If you want to screw things up - blind charge or take a load directly off the battery.
If you want to keep things in balance and let the IBS work and the smart charging system work like it should, never blind charge.

This is an older IBS - version 1. 0 I believe but it's still from FCA and still means the same thing -

Yeah, there is a difference. If you bypass the IBS, then you really mess with what the system knows about the battery, state of charge, even health.

I used a BatterMINDer EZ Connector.
