I’ve decided to go with the roll-up tonneau to maximize bed usage. I’m thinking of the Tyger Tonneau.

I don’t have any bed rails from the factory, just spray on bedliner. Are these roll up covers plug and play from the box or do I need bed rails?

I called Tyger support and they told me bed rails are not needed but I’ve seen some posts advising they’re needed … albeit that was in a post regarding a trip fold cover.

Some brands require them, some do not. Check out one of the big name Jeep online places and look at the options. If you decide to go the rail route, you probably will have to clean the threads to mount a rail system.

I see some roll up covers which flare up a little at the corners. Is there a low cost option widely known for best bang for the buck quality and fitment? I already mentioned Tyger and have found Tactik appears popular. Would appreciate some guidance!

I have the truxedo pro x15. Little bit pricier than other options, but sits flat on the corners, is of very high quality and has a very low profile.

Oh, and can be Installed with or without bedrails

I have the exact one you're probably looking at. You don't need to have the factory bed rails. It comes with the clamps that go under the bed sides, and over the framework of the cover.

I have no issues with the Tyger one. It's been great for almost a year. I actually had the same brand on my silverado that I traded in for the JT.

Very nice quality and design! I’ll check it out.

Yeah, I was originally looking at tri folds but realized I’ll rarely use the bed and when I do it will be bulky stuff, like furniture, so a roll up makes sense for me.
It’s just that I’ve seen a few with sloppy looking corners so I’m glad to hear you’re happy with it!

I have the Proven Ground one from Extreme Terrain. Works well and priced right. On my Chevy, I had the Truxedo one. Better quality, but a bit more expensive.

Yeah, I've seen some reports of the bad corners or the stitch seams pulling apart. Luckliy I haven't had that issue with either of mine.

Same deal here though, didn't want to lose the space with a trifold, and really didn't need it to be fancy. I will say, if you're looking for water tight covers, this one probably won't thrill you out of the box. I spent about a half hour with some foam tape going around and beefing up the weather stripping that came on it in certain places.

I have the roll up Proven Ground one and rails. I personally like mounting the cover to the rails. Also, the cover has a three piece frame you put together and position. One half of the Velcro is on the outer edge. The back corners have a bracket that you position the cover into, then rotate in place to tighten. It basically locks in place and you lower the tailgate, pull a cord and it unlocks. To me it seemed like a good value for the money. I believe you can use it with or without rails, but I could be wrong.

Yes, I like how the corner brackets look/operate on the lockable roll up Proven Ground model. It looks as though when the cover is rolled up, there are 3 cross-braces which remain from side-to-side, is that what yours is? https://www.extremeterrain.com/prov...tor-locking-roll-up-tonneau-cover-jg5112.html

This Proven Ground model doesn't say it's lockable, the corners are not rounded and it doesn't appear there are exposed cross-braces, when rolled up. https://www.extremeterrain.com/proven-ground-jeep-gladiator-velcro-roll-up-tonneau-cover-jg5114.html

The second link is mine (Item JG5114), as I recall the cover is attached to the braces. I've had it almost a year and haven't rolled it up except once to try it to be honest. I'll double check when I get home this evening, but I believe it looks like this photo. We recently had several inches of snow, and then it rained. Everything turned to ice. The cover is fine.

The Gladiator beds are shaped kinda weird with the sharp curve near the tailgate. FYI, most covers let in a little dust or rain. You can seal the various gaps of the tailgate which helps a lot, but if it gets damp and freezes...life gets complicated.

As far as the lockable part goes, it really is a moot security point, but it does keep the cover tight.

I also did not have the trail rail system from the factory however there are cheaper, more sturdy options out there from TeraFlex and Rebel Offroad is you do end up needing the rail system.

I went with TeraFlex Uinta system with tie-down anchors for under $300 with a discount from Northridge. You may need a m6x1 tap to remove the bed liner from the factory holes.
